Why does my snipping tool no longer bring up the pop up image to edit?

My Snip tool used to bring the image I captured in a pop up automatically, that I could edit when using the windows key & Ctrl S. It no longer does this? Is there a setting I need to change? I have to actually open the Snip Tool Menu to get this to work now. Not sure if some update was done by my IT people that changed this.

    I'm on Win11 all patched up and I had the same problem (that Snipping tool opens empty when clicking on the snipp-notifcation).

    I now managed to solve it.

    It appears to be two MS snipping tools, one that works and one that doesn't.

    We need to set the correct one as our default...

    Some of the suggestions in this thread describes this, but the naming seems to constantly change so I had a hard time following them.

    This is what worked for me...

    1. Open settings (search from the toolbar)
    2. Select Apps, and then Default apps

    1. In the applications section search for "snipp" and open the Screen Snipping option

    1. Open the Snipping Tool option and select Screen Snipping option and confirm with "Set default"

    1. When your default looks like this it works

    (i.e. when you click on the Snipp-notification the Snipping Tool opens with your snipp ready for mark-up)

    Really? so are you saying the snip tool pops up automatically when you drag a screen shot? Right now I have to re-click the icon to get my screen shot to pull up again.

    This only happened because we had a work wide mandatory update from 10 to 11. It was fine before.

    I also contacted our IT team and they said MS think this is how snip tool should work now.. what. I think it's a flaw. Make taking screen shots that much longer.

    Click Windows+V to open the clipboard and you can see the picture you captured.

    If the PC is not joined to a domain management, maybe we can consider a Repair Upgrade, the repair steps are contained in this article, click here **** . Of course, if you have important data, please remember to export them.

    If your PC have already joined the domain management, please contact IT to fix this error for you.

    From your screenshots, it looks like the notifications and settings are correct.

    According to my tests, the screenshot tool should be Shift (Left) + Windows logo key + S. Can you please try this shortcut combination to take a screenshot? If this doesn't work, try holding down Windows+S and searching for Snipping Tools >> then click New >> to see if a notification appears for the screenshot?

    If none of these settings work, then we may need to consider whether your company's IT has made some changes to your computer and you could try contacting them.

    It is definitely a flaw to me and the fix is not that difficult so maybe this is intentional. If so, that is a bad decision from MS. IMO
