Read thread if you can? 3 answers given in it. Mine works without upgrading to windows 11 24H2 which is full of issues!

I've had this issue with this same exact driver for literally YEARS and have found no way to permanently solve it, however I found a way that is pretty close. For some reason for me, but normal 'hide updates' tool mentioned before didn't work.

However this is what I've been doing and it should work at least until the next major feature update (such as 24H2) which is only once a year, then you'll just have to do it again, but it is pretty quick. The instructions might seem complicated but I am just being detailed in explaining what it does. It's really just like 3 commands.

1. Open Windows PowerShell as administrator
2. Run the following command which will install this module for PowerShell called "PSWindowsUpdate" that can deal with Windows Updates. The module is signed with a trusted certificate and everything.

• Install-Module PSWindowsUpdate
• Enter 'y' to confirm yes when it asks you to install it

3. (Optional) If you already installed that module before but it has been a while, then run this command instead to make sure it's up to date:

• Update-Module PSWindowsUpdate

4. Then run this command:

• Get-WindowsUpdate

5. You'll see a list of any currently found available updates, which should be the same as any ones that show up in the Windows Update settings menu, including the HP USB ones. There will be headers in the list like ComputerName, Status, KB (this one doesn't have a KB number apparently), Size, and Title
6. Copy the title and run it with the command:

• Hide-WindowsUpdate -Title "whatever update title"
• In this case specifically:
  • Hide-WindowsUpdate -Title "Hewlett-Packard - USB - 4/8/2019 12:00:00 AM - 1.0.0.237"
• In other situations where a KB article is listed, you could alternatively run:
  • Hide-WindowsUpdate -KBArticleID KBNUMBER

7. It will ask if you to confirm you want to perform the action, so enter Y. It might ask you twice if the update appears twice in the list. It will probably show the list again, but now with the letter 'H' as part of the 'Status' column.
8. Now it should no longer show up in the updates list in the settings menu. If you run "Get-WindowsUpdate" again through PowerShell, you'll notice the items are there but now show an 'H'.

Extra Tips / Notes:

• If you ever want to see the updates you've hidden, you can use this command and it will include hidden updates:
  • Get-WindowsUpdate -WithHidden
• If you want to unhide a command, use the following command just like you did with the one to hide:
  • UnHide-WindowsUpdate -Title "whatever update title"
• To see a list of all the possible commands for the module, use this command:
  • Get-Command -module PSWindowsUpdate
• To see a list of parameters for any command you can use the "Show-Command" command (this applies to any powershell command). Example:
  • Show-Command Get-WindowsUpdate

This HP USB update drove me crazy for months. Eventually bought a Canon printer and didn't need HP utilities any more. Uninstalled all the HP apps on my laptop but still kept getting the HP USB drive install error. I searched my C drive for 'hp' and deleted all files that seemed related to my HP printer and apps. Could not delete a couple files in the registry no matter how hard I tried, but I'm not an IT professional. After a few restarts the HP USB driver install went away, no idea why or how.

Had exactly the same problem: continued attempts to install HP USB drivers after switching to Canon printer and uninstalling all HP apps and programs. The problem disappeared with the last Microsoft update.
