Windows 11 22H2 upgrade breaks "Run whether user is logged on or not" scheduled tasks

I have a number of scheduled tasks with the "Run whether user is logged on or not" option set, with the default setting of storing the password for the account.

Everything was running fine, until the 22H2 update.

Now such tasks won't start, yielding

"Task Scheduler failed to start "xxx" task for user "yyy". Additional Data: Error Value: 2147943726.

Re-entering the password for the (local) user account does not help.

If I check the "Do not store password" option the task can start, but this prevents the task from accessing network resources.

Repro'ed on two machines, so doesn't feel like a configuration issue.

Any clue?

    Hello Chandy. Do you have any more information about task scheduler in windows 11 22H2? As I have posted earlier, up until my updating to windows 11 22H2 my scheduled batch files were working fine across network shares, now they are not. I deleted and recreated the tasks and checked the credentials. This did not work on a windows 11 workstation that was running 22H2. I set up a workstation from a previous version of windows 11 21H2 and the scheduled task work fine. I've blocked feature updates for now. What is Microsoft going to do about this? I am an IT manager and I need those scheduled tasks to work as they used to before 22H2. Or be provided a solution as to how to make them work.

    This broke WSL autostart functionality for couple of projects I host on GitHub.

    Can confirm this issue occurs on Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11 22H2

    This thread seems to be the unofficial landing spot on the Internet for other affected customers to commiserate.

    I would love to hear official acknowledgement that this issue exists, and whether or not it we can expect a fix.

    Update. I set up a fresh windows 11 workstation using an older USB flash drive, it has windows 11 version 21H2. I did not connect the computer to the internet during the installation. Now with windows 11 21H2 installed I scheduled my Robocopy batch file to copy files from network shares as I have successfully done for years.

    The scheduled task worked fine and executed my batch file. It is successfully copying files as I type.

    Windows 22H2 should not have been made available without more serious testing. I do not care about hip hop polished apps and massive social media options; I am an IT manager that needs scheduled tasks to execute the batch files that I rely upon daily.

    I am requesting that there be a tool provided to uninstall 22H2, it screwed things up for me and I would ask why it was not tested better regarding this issue.

    Needless to say, I will not be moving forward on any feature updates in the future.

    Scheduled tasks started working for me today. Yesterday they were failing, today they work. Didn't notice any updates being installed. Took too long to fix anyways, shipping such a regression is concerning.

    This does not fix the issue; you're just lucky that your task can run without those credentials.
