Fingerprint reader not working on Windows 11: "This option is currently unavailable"

I recently got a Dell Inspiron with Windows 11 preloaded. The fingerprint reader was working fine at first, but now it appears to not be working with windows hello. The option to add a finger or remove the fingerprint are greyed out and not clickable.

I've seen posts about this issue in Windows 10, but the fixes aren't working for me.

    So I have spoke with a windows technician who remotely tried to fix the issue and they couldn't. So they are just sending me a new computer, but I feel like I'm going to have the same issue. As I told them it's not just an defective computer issue, apparently it's something with the windows 11 software. So I'm probably not going to upgrade to windows 11 this time. But I'm wondering how good is it going to work with windows 10. How did you fix yours? I tired all the steps and recommendations I've seen online at this point?

    bro...The finger print driver works really fine in Windows 10...since we jumped to windows 11 the old files have been outdated and also windows 11 is new ..so I dont think so we have an official fingerprint driver for windows 11

    I have the same issue on a newish AUSUS ROG laptop. It will work after setup a couple of days then not. It will no longer recognize my finger print. I then have to delete and setup again.

    Yeah my fingerprint stopped working 2 weeks after I purchased my Surface Laptop Go. Mines isn't even lighting up anymore, so I can't even delete it or rest it or do anything.
