I recently got a Dell Inspiron with Windows 11 preloaded. The fingerprint reader was working fine at first, but now it appears to not be working with windows hello. The option to add a finger or remove the fingerprint are greyed out and not clickable.
I've seen posts about this issue in Windows 10, but the fixes aren't working for me.

This is a known bug, seems to be in both Windows 10 and 11. After a few software updates, it will show up. It does not seem to be a HP of manufacturer-specific issues.
Microsoft must know about this but refused to publish any solution.
This is also an issue if you boot windows 11 to diagnostic mode in msconfig and have not configured a pin. The fingerprint reader doesnt work and you cant log in at all.
that's is very true, if you don't have a pin setup, then you're screwed, as finger print refuse to work.
