Fingerprint reader not working on Windows 11: "This option is currently unavailable"

I recently got a Dell Inspiron with Windows 11 preloaded. The fingerprint reader was working fine at first, but now it appears to not be working with windows hello. The option to add a finger or remove the fingerprint are greyed out and not clickable.

I've seen posts about this issue in Windows 10, but the fixes aren't working for me.

    I also have the same problem with trying to do so many things but not solved.

    My device is HP Envi x360 Convertible 13-ay0xxx

    Idk What happened but ive gotten the same problem and Im unable to fix it up

    it said to sign in to windows, apps, and services. but when i click on set up it wouldn't work at all...

    What worked for me in the end under windows 11 (and different hardware) was downloading a full set of windows 10 chipset manufacturers drivers and the fingerprint reader driver, uninstalling (not just disabling) all current chipset and fingerprint drivers, installing the replacement drivers using tbe manufacturer's installer (ignoring any prompts that there are already better drivers available), and rebooting.

    Недавно я получил HP Elitebook 850 G5 с Windows 11. Считыватель отпечатков пальцев не работает с Windows Hello. Опция добавления пальца или удаления отпечатка пальца выделена серым цветом и не активна. И в диспетчере устройств нет драйвера отпечатка пальцев. Что мне делать?
