This is á common issue, I did not find a satisfactory solution, but factory reset works at least.
Fingerprint reader not working on Windows 11: "This option is currently unavailable"
I recently got a Dell Inspiron with Windows 11 preloaded. The fingerprint reader was working fine at first, but now it appears to not be working with windows hello. The option to add a finger or remove the fingerprint are greyed out and not clickable.
I've seen posts about this issue in Windows 10, but the fixes aren't working for me.

2022-12-14T08:49:53+00:00 you try to reinstall Dell Goodix Fingerprint driver for windows 11 one more time and then in account settings, remove any PIN (Windows Hello) if its exist. once you remove the PIN then, initiate the fingerprint recognition it will work then and after later you are set New PIN. i hope this resolve your issue.

The finger print sign in was broken by a recent windows update.

2022-12-12T00:10:37+00:00 Carlo, you the man! I have a Lenovo Flex 5. Following your instructions and picking an older driver did the trick! I had been struggling with this for a while --- perhaps since I did a driver update, or maybe the last windows update
