Fingerprint reader not working on Windows 11: "This option is currently unavailable"

I recently got a Dell Inspiron with Windows 11 preloaded. The fingerprint reader was working fine at first, but now it appears to not be working with windows hello. The option to add a finger or remove the fingerprint are greyed out and not clickable.

I've seen posts about this issue in Windows 10, but the fixes aren't working for me.

    My fix came with a Bios update through Manufacturer App. In my case I have a Lenovo C940 running Windows 11.

    I used the Lenovo Vantage application and updated Bios through their App. As soon as the computer restarted the fingerprint sensor worked right away.

    Hello,

    For me, worked just restored the PC, creating a new user did not solve my problem. Depends on the Hardware (In my case Lenovo P53S). I was forced to restore because of a new catastrophic error ... I mean it seems not connected with fingerprint or hello face recognition.

    The Carlos methods absolutely did not work!! I tried it and failed, do follow his advice.

    Uninstalling/reinstalling driver also did nothing.

    1. You can reset your PC and restore the setting
    2. Create another user and you finger print Hello will be working for the new person.

    Both of which worked for me!! This solution has been posted multiple times in the past.

    It is a Windows 10/11 issue.

    Good day to you,

    I have tried the methods you shared but the issue is still unresolved. The fingerprint driver is not found on my PC now. It was there until 2 days back. Even after installing it from the link, you shared, it still persists.

    My device model: Dell Inspiron 14 5410 2-in-1 ; windows 11

    Manufacturer: Dell inc.
