Windows 11 battery draining in sleep mode

Hi everyone,

After the upgrade to Windows 11, I've found that my laptop won't go to sleep after closing the lid. The fan keeps making noise with the lid closed, and the battery is drained.

When opening the lid again, the computer won't respond to anything (blank screen, power button does nothing, keyboard doesn't respond), but it's active because the fan is working.

This was working fine before the upgrade and is a major problem, because the battery dies pretty quickly.

Laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad 530 i7 8 GB ram.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I am sorry to hear about the inconvenience. Some settings might be affecting the computer to actually go into sleep mode. Here is a guide on how to troubleshoot sleep mode feature that is not working. Hope it helps.

    Brand new laptop came with Windows 11.

    I've noticed that it doesn't actually sleep in sleep mode. The battery still drains at roughly the same rate as when I'm using the laptop, the body of the computer remains warm as if it's still running.

    How do I get it to actually sleep during sleep mode? Sleep mode in virtually every other computer I've used at least doubles the battery life but this sleep mode doesn't function at all.

    That is correct. when I close the lid, the laptop also mutes but DHCP is still running, and take more battery. and win 10 I don't have this problem, and I didn't test specifically on win 10. I want to use win 11 and fix this error somehow simply. currently, when I want to sleep, l turns off Wi-Fi. It will work fine.

    Don't see the fact that anyone mentioned that hardware can be enabled or not during suspend. Various power related settings affect how a computer reacts during suspend. There are power states in many BIOS for example that control how a computer is suspended and power can be applied to parts during suspend. Seems that you might want to look into that.
