Windows 11: Thumbnail previews do not show on folders

My folders are appearing as blank folder icons, where in Win 10 they showed thumbnail previews of the contents.

I've searched online for answers, and most appear to apply to earlier versions, and tell me to uncheck the 'icon only, no thumbnail' choice in View|Options, but that is already unchecked, so that is not the answer.

Does anyone have an actual working answer? Thanks if you do!

    I use the windows insider build i don't mind having to reformat once its in the public release, (win 11 is on a dual boot for me , not my main computer )

    but if you want it , go to windows update and click windows insider to join , the insider build has it back enabled. win 11 was not finished yet when released ,relied on customer feedback.

    Thanks I realized that after posting a the entries in the wrong thread.

    But thought, "What the heck! I don't want previews, I want to "Select a file to show on (a) Folder Icon." So, what the heck. I'm out of place, but my problem gets shown more often. The other thread is "dead" anyway.

    David, William again. Please note I'm note complaining about previews here . . . . My problem is showing a file on a folder. Nothing more.

    The above don't work. Will the Fall Update fix this?

    I totally agree. Please note David, I don't offer a solution since there isn't one. At least NOT UNTIL, Microsoft allows us to select a file to show on a folder icon.
