Intel Core i7-6700HQ Not Getting The Windows 11 Update?

Totally agree that it is not clear because if the i7-6700HQ (which has quad core processor) can't run windows 11 stable enough then how is it that Celeron processors are capable of running windows 11? New laptops with Celeron processors shouldn't be able to run Windows 11, yet here we are with those running Windows 11. Doesn't make sense at all and arbitrary. Heck I even have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 950M graphics card, so it should more than be capable of running Windows 11 with no issues. Microsoft what are you doing?!

Your CPU isn't supported and capable to run Windows 11.

Microsoft had tested all the CPUs and probably, they didn't got good results from your one.

Even though your CPU is powerful, it may not have the features and performance that Windows 11 needs.

The compatible CPU list will not be updated. But you can log your thoughts as a suggestion in the Feedback hub. Microsoft may change it's decision. Less chances though.

Microsoft hasn't made it clear why the intel core i7-6700HQ is not capable of running Windows 11. Which tests dit they perform, what were the results of those tests that they performed? What features and performance does my CPU need in order for it to run Windows 11, none of this is really clear. On what basis did Microsoft come to the conclusion that the intel core i7-6700HQ is not a capable processor and therefore devices with this processor won't get the update to Windows 11? These are some of the questions that Microsoft needs to address, just saying "your CPU is won't get the update to Windows 11 because it is not capable and supported" doesn't say anything.

For sure, even in new 'Pentium' & 'Celeron' based processors for low powered computing, certain upgrades exist which support elements of new basic language used by Windows 10 / 11 & other platforms to aid performance. Let's face it, these budget CPU's need it, as they struggle with simple computing & multi- tasking.

HOWEVER, the i7-6700 Quad Core/8 thread processor in a general Windows environment is a beast even today, fast enough & then some... At its release this was a serious gaming CPU, & its not that old & still faster & smarter than entry level gaming CPU's on todays market.

There is absolutely NO CHANCE Microsoft found creditable negative results in running Windows 11 alongside this processor.

And sorry Joe13 B-) 2.0 2.0") , your defence regarding security platforms sounds like a highly logical reason to support MS's decision, however, aside from nanostructure changes & gen- to- gen performance boosts, the list of approved CPU's issued by Microsoft do not support your theory and are inconsistent. Plus Windows security can be handled within BIOS & in other ways.

So, I put it to a qualified Microsoft technician (not sales, admin, customer services or similar) to assist in this thread & please, share the test results for the i7 6700 & demonstrate the exact area where performance was unstable?

In this retail dominated industry there are many building their own PC's & systems, who should be able to keep up with OS advances & tune- up around them.

I left OSX for Windows, 10 years ago due to Apple's clear strategies of force- voiding $3,000+ personal computers after 3-5 years via software bullying.

I would hope for better responsibility from the worlds preferred operating System, so please issue the proof; before many have to part with serious money on new CPU's & motherboards, or an entire new PC.

I could not do an upgrade of the -Intel(R) Core (TM) i7-6700- 3.40GHz 32 GB memory (Dell 8900) - I did do a clean install of Windows 11, it worked, reloaded all my applications and it ran fine with no issues. No crashes and the patches loaded with no problems. I have 2 of these Desktops which cost over 1500.00 each in 2017-2018. I really would like an explanation from MS. Something I can understand, not BS. These 2 machines are very fast and never have I had an issue. I can't believe I have to buy 2 new desktops. There is no route to upgrade the CPU on the Dell motherboards either. I am totally disgusted now with MS.

You may have thought that Celeron doesn't have any new processors of 8th gen and above. Of course it does have newer processors in the series which is why MS chose them.

Win11 needs at least an 8th gen processor while the 6700HQ is a 6th gen. The reason why they selected only processors above 8th gen and a few 7th gen is because the older processors don't support several security req. like the Virtualization-Based Security (VBS) that Windows 11 needs to protect the OS and the device from vulnerabilities and malwares.
