With the February update to Windows 11 - you have the option to disable MS start to feed from the Widget Settings. Requires Windows 11 23H2 at least.
How to disable news and interest in Windows 11 widget
I want to keep the widget on my task bar, however I don't want the new stories to show. I've hide a bunch of them and they still end up showing, but I'm constantly having to hide them all since there are sooooo many. How do I disable the top stories, and the news and interest without turning off my widgets. I ONLY want the weather to show.
I've uninstalled microsoft news but I'm still seeing the news stories.

I would suggest that you completely remove the the Widgets app from your taskbar - see here -and pin the Weather App to Start / Taskbar.

2024-02-20T16:32:24+00:00 I can't get any of my feed preferences to actually stay what I set them to. Temperature will just sometimes be C instead of F. My home location is set every morning because it never remembers it, sometimes won't even change it when I switch it back to F.
I can't hide or remove the Games widget, selecting "hide widget" just refreshes all of my widgets and shows ones that I don't want to see and have no selected as ones to display. My location is often automatically set to my company vpn location or another city nearby in the widgets.
I have seen some articles saying to right click on the taskbar widget/feed icon but when I right click nothing happens. In the settings for the widgets there is only the option to show or hide ALL of them instead of an option to select specific widgets to show or hide when they won't hide properly when selecting that setting in the feed itself.
Every time I open a new Edge browser or tab, it shows recommendations and feed that is not what I have it customized to be (back to the settings not actually ever saving).
From a work computer perspective, Edge and windows is not nice and the lack of customization for feeds and most importantly the ability to save these customizations makes windows features useless and frustrating. Seems like the best thing to do is just turn off all widgets/feeds/etc in both windows taskbar and in Edge.

2024-01-25T16:54:00+00:00 yes it's back again for me as well, $@#$@!
The news from my start menu randomly went away today when I turned on my PC and the settings gear returned giving me start menu options. I didn't even need to redisable Microsoft Start it did it on it's own.
