Cannot see own wireless network but can see others around me

Hi all,

Seemingly after last Windows update (though I'm not sure) I cannot see my own wireless network on my home laptop. I can see all the networks of my neighbors, but not my own.

I can see it and connect to my wireless network with my Work laptop. My partner can see it and connect to it with her two laptops and her smartphone.

I checked the wireless network adapter (Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC) and when I click Properties and then Configure, the General tab says "This device is working properly." However, when I look at the icon in the Control Panel under Network Connections there is a big red X next to the Wi-Fi icon and it says "Not Connected".

When I click the Diagnose button the result is "You have not chosen to connect to any of the available networks" (and I can't since I don't know the security keys for those networks). Then skipping to the next step, the next window says "None of the networks you have previously connected to are in range"

Any advice?

    Thank you very much for your reply, I hope this solution works for me, I am not familiar with changing settings and things but will ask someone to help me in that and let you know about the outcome.

    By the way all other devices at home can find the home router ex. Mobiles, TV's and some other devices except my laptop.

    I have the same problem. lap top can find all the neighborhood routers except my own home one, my mobile and wife's mobile can find and connect to it but not the Lap Top. Tried restored point to earlier date but no luck . Very frustrating

    Having had a field day trying to find a solution to this problem, I have resorted to spending 10 bucks on a wifi usb dongle. Bingo...WIFI shows in list amongst all the others.

    I have a realtek RTL8188CU on my motherboard with a driver I can't remove. I.e. I dont get the option to remove the driver when de-installing the wifi in device manager. Therefore the restart always used the same old driver that is somehwere in the system.

    Since I didnt feel doing a clean Windows restart, which some suggest and is a massive shortcoming with Windows, I ordered a USB wifi dongle. Surprise surprise, the netwotk finally shows. So spend 10 bucks and stop waisting time. This seems to be the only way getting around that old driver.

    I've plugged in the new dongle, but still nothing showed other than the neighbours networks. I had to disable the old wifi adapter first. Go to network adapters and find two and not one adapter once youve inserted the new dongle. Then disable the old. Make sure before you plug in the new you now what the old adapters name is so you select the correct one disabling it.
