importing photos from iphone not showing in folders by date taken

I have always used autoplay or photo app to import photos from my iphone to my Windows 10 computer.  As of this week (maybe since the last Windows update) the photos do not import in the standard folders by date taken as they always have.  They are just randomly going to my pictures folder, not within folders by date as they always have. Photos I imported on December 10 did as they always do.  When I imported photos today from the last several days they just went to the pictures folder. I have rebooted my computer, rebooted my iPhone X and tried importing just one new photo.  It is still not working as it always has.  Any assistance would be welcome.    Thanks.

I just go straight to the iPhone link that shows up on File Explorer when I plug in the phone. It should show up on the "This PC" list. I don't bother with the Win10 Photo app.

When you see the link for the phone, right-click and the "Import Photos and Videos" link shows up on the menu. If your iPhone comes up on AutoPlay, the File Explorer option should be available there as well.

When the import window pops up, click on "More Options" and there you will find the folder creating options. They can be grouped by name, date imported, date taken, and other combinations. This is also where you can change the AutoPlay options.

I've also used the photo transfer utilities from Canon and Nikon to transfer images from my DSLR. The applications are free for anyone to download and use, and they will read the iPhone directories and also create individually dated folders. But, I don't remember if they have issues with reading all the subdirectories within the iPhone's DCIM directory.

On our Mac, I don't bother with Apple's Photos app. I do all of the transfers using Nikon NX-Studio application. Rather than importing as individual photo files, Apple's Photos app not only dumps everything into a single directory, but all the photos populate a single monolithic file. If you want individual photo files, you have to export them out of the Photos app. It seems that Microsoft has mimicked that approach with the Windows Photos app.

    I am having the same issue on one computer. Uninstalling/re-installing does not help. Clicking "fix" doesn't help.

    This is an application bug - introduced in the last Windows update. I believe that what ever changes where made to the app caused this - and should have been caught in testing!

    What the heck should I do now - I have to manually move pictures to date folders (time consuming)!

    Please have your coders fix this - or at least look at the issue...

    I also have the same problem. and would really like to save my imported photos in folders by date- it takes ages to put them into folders manually.

    After spending an hour pulling my hair out and searching for a solution I finally found what will work!  We need to use Windows Photo Gallery to do the upload rather than the photo app (at least until Microsoft fixes this glitch).  The photo app is always the default so that is what it will try to get you to use to when you plug your phone in, but if you go to the photo gallery you can upload it from there and the photos will be put in the nicely dated file folders that we like!  There might be an easier way to get to the photo gallery but this is what I eventually had to do...

    1.  Right click on an any existing picture that is currently save on your computer and click on "open with" then in the drop down menu click on "photo gallery"

    2.  When the photo comes up click on "edit, organize, and share" in the top left corner.

    3.  You will now be in Photo Gallery and you should see your phone listed in the left hand menu bar at the very bottom under devices

    4.  Click on your phone to see the familiar photo upload screen that we were used to in prior versions of Windows (I had to unplug and plug in my phone several times to get it to recognize my photos.  This may be because I have a super old iPhone or most likely it's just user error but eventually my photos did show up and I could click the ones to upload, select which file to put them in, etc.  **I did have to make sure my phone was unlocked prior to plugging in**)

    Thank heavens it is not just me!!!    My photos used to download like the 2nd  photo.  Now they download like the first photo.   If you find the answer let me know
