SCAM - Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection Firewall & Network Protection

7/14/2021 I received an e/m from Microsoft Defender Team today for 1yr subscription. They gave cust #, e/m ID, Inv id. the price is now $300.00. Contact number from them is +1-866-443-0944. I did not contact them, checked for scam info and found this to be a scam. Beware folks. Check everything before you call any number you don't recognize.

I received the same e-mail today. At first, I panicked and actually called the number and and a guy from India answered. I advised that I don't remember purchasing the Microsoft Defender, etc.

He asked me for my e-mail address, which I didn't mind giving. Then he says, give me one second, let me "check your record." Then he continues to ask me questions like, "you don't remember purchasing this?" "are you the only person using your PC?" and "so you wish to cancel this?"

Eventually I gave the obvious answers like, I don't remember purchasing, I'm the only person using my PC and I wish to cancel. After getting all that info, he tells me to log into my yahoo account and refresh the page. When I asked why I need to open my e-mail, if they can just cancel it on their system, he says, "you have to fill out some information on an e-mail you will be receiving.

At that point, I kind of figured it was a scam and hung up the phone. After that, I received 2 calls from Ohio that I didn't pick up, followed by a text message saying "Did you hung up the call?" Then I blocked the number and searched online about this scam, and ended up here.

Be careful people, these people are trying to "learn" by experience and are going to be smarter and have better strategies in no time.

I got the same scam> Obviously there is no treason for Microsoft to use a gmail address!

received the same scam today in an email but the price is now $399.00. I did not call the number  (888) 737-5799 or respond to the email.
