WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    For the past week, WaasMedic Agent Exe has been running for well over an hour when I boot up my laptop each day. Are you saying that I should be able to safely just “End Task” for that app on Task Manager? Or is there another way to “shut it down”? Sorry — I am not the most tech savvy but I am completely unable to get things done on the machine.

    During perhaps unrelated issues yesterday morning, stopped WaasMedic from Task Manager, did not cure the then current problem so had to force reboot. This morning - guess what!  WaasMedic ran so apparently stopping from TM only delays it running 24 hours till next mornings boot, MS will still have their way. Ran for 7 or 8 minutes this morning, first half delayed action in opening apps etc, 2nd half hardly noticeable. Every day, I  check if any updates arrived in Update & Security, 6 days a week registers as checking 3 - 5 minutes after ON button, today registers 11 minutes so appears WaasMedic runs prior to checking for updates, so is this 'mending' before checking ? I assume pausing updates as MarcHoppe's posting will not stop it running, if it does, would it then have a more intense run to catch up after receiving back dated update releases. Perhaps MS could give us answers on this - sorry wasn't thinking - MS giving us answers?

    Are you talking about WaaSMedic Agent.exe ? It's a task that is scheduled to run every Sunday. I don't think pausing updates will have any effect since it's not updating aynthing. It's supposed to be fixing Windows update errors but obviously it is not. You can End Task in the Task Manger but Waas will just come back next Sunday.

    Same here. Waas scanned all my personal files.  There is indeed no reason for it to do so especially for non-executables like audio files or graphics files. There is no other way to describe Waas than as Spyware. When it runs next Sunday I'm just going to manually shut it down from the Task Manager. There is just no reason for it to run.
