WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

Thanks,

Paul...

I didn't make any changes to my machine, but got a message of a recent MicroSoft Edge Upgrade and my machine seems to be back to normal booting up within a couple of minutes versus 10-15 minutes previously.   I no longer see WaasMedic consuming 100% of disk during start up.   I have no idea what happened but hope it stays.  Not sure if anyone else knows whether MicroSoft Edge or other MicroSoft upgrades could explain the improvement.  I haven't made any changes to software or configuration that I'm aware of.

Everybody on this thread seems to have the same problem to varying degrees. I assume each has a different make/model of computer, running either Version 2004 or 20H0, using traditional HD or or SSD, have different apps installed, each running different configurations etc. The one common denominator, (excuse me for swearing), and that is MICROSOFT WINDOWS 10 - could this be the ultimate cause of all our woes - I wonder?

My guess is the only way to prevent this from happening is to keep updates paused in Windows Update Settings...

No, unfortunately that strategy won't succeed against WaasMedic .

I set updates to pause for as long as possible before this misery with it began.

And the problem isn't confined only to a boot up. Even the simple process of waking up my PC after an overnight sleep causes it to slow down to a mollusk-like crawl for a long time while all kinds of disk usage eat up its performance.  Task Manager reveals the culprit to be WaasMedic.

PS -Is Microsoft cramming updates down our throats even when we set Settings to pause updates?

Just for the record this WaasMedic issue affects all 5 of my Win 10 systems to varying degrees. It makes my laptop unusable for 10-15 minutes after the sheduled Waas run and yet only runs for a very short time on this system which has an SSD so perhaps that's a clue.  On my most powerful system an i7 8700K with 16 gigs of Ram Waas ran for over 11 minutes at one scheduled run but it was only 3-4 minutes the last run. That system has no third party AV software, no third party browsers but does have an HDD as opposed to an SSD. Some of my systems are fully updated to version 20H2 and one still runs 20-04. None of them have any viruses, none of them are Dells and none of them have had any failed updates. Yesterday one did install an update that had already been installed in February KB4023057.
