My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

Thanks,

Paul...

Don't forget to add MicrosoftEdgeUpdate to your list of resource hogging executables that MS prevents you from stopping. I have seen up top 4 instances with 18 threads of this running EVERYDAY! Edge must be so buggy it requires massive daily updates, yet MS WILL NOT ALLOW UNINSTALLATION OF THIS BUG LADEN, RESOURCE HOGGING APPLICATION!

(Actually it is because it is not buggy - just NOSY, cruising around your HD and reporting back to HQ).

Same issue. Laptop is not two weeks old. I have never seen the medic service before and all of a sudden, it's at 100%. Then, just the ubiquitous System is at 90%.

I don't use Store but have the WaasMedic issue, this is what is shown in Task Manager as using high disc read. Opening Store shows that initially using disc which any app will show when opening & using.

I have Norton 360 installed, one module notifies when you in the performance settings of high CPU, disk activity etc. Every time WassMedic runs, I get a high disc usage warning which is disc read, disc write comes back as normal. Surely if the Medic part is putting on a plaster & repairing something, there would also be an associated high disc write repairing the issue, but no, it is all read so evidently not repairing anything. There again, if it does actually repair something, why the need to run again, if you repair something you expect it to be repaired, once & for all, not having to come back @ regular interval & have another go. This is why MS description of this process is very vague, suspicions are it is doing something else in stealth mode. Not a very good recommendation for MS & Windows 10 if it needs constant Medic attention.
