WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

Thanks,

Paul...

    Paul:

Thank you for your reply. About 2 weeks ago I added a comment to an entry about waasmedic in Feedback Hub.

If I am able, the next time my computer experiences significant performance problems with waasmedic, I will try to capture recording with Feedback Hub. The big difficulty with doing this is when I have seen the problem, my computer (has HDD as system disk) takes a long time - minutes - to respond to any keyboard entries. After pressing CTRL-ALT-Del, it may take several minutes before Task Manager opens. Disk activity light is on solid, and once task manager opens up, disk activity is maxed out and stays maxed out, other resources (cpu, memory) are ok.

As I stated on another thread, when this problem occurs on my computer, it most often happens during the end-of-month Windows updates (around 4th Tuesday of the month) which get listed as failed updates in update history. I rarely see this problem (or update failures) for the 2nd Tuesday of the month Win updates. The times after the performance problem has occurred, my system has come up clean after scans (verifyonly type scans, not repairs) with sfc, dism, and chkdsk.

(I remember you providing the solution 3 years ago to recurring problem many users were seeing with Windows Updates - such as "Error 0x80070bc2 during installation KB4074588". Your fix helped lots of us get monthly windows updates to complete in those days. Thanks again.)

Similar issue to wmcole with flash. Normally open Update app to see if anything come through in morning & afternoon. 17th Feb am look showed been error in downloading updates. After a re-boot, opened app again, then in a blink it must have downloaded and installed something but no choice given. Only found out what it was when opened update history. This is one of the problems I have found when 'ERROR' occurs, opening WUD app again automatically downloads & installs - no choice given to delay to outside working hours etc - same when doing manual update if it finds anything. Never had these problems in the old old days when there were no regular updates being issued (showed my age there)

I had the same issue and the below guide seems to have fixed it for me, so I guess it was related to Windows having some sort of issue with update checking.

WaasMedic running this morning on boot, created a bit of a slow motion issue but this soon cleared although it was running for another few minutes with no real noticeable effect. First boot of day normally a bit more disc activity as it runs various components on a daily basis such as WUD's etc.

Booted this afternoon, same strange lock screen/log-in  sequence as 12th March PM boot. Thought 'here we go again' - may as well go & do something else until Microsoft & computer decides it's time for me to use. Turned out to be ill founded, WAASMedic was not running - , waited my normal 3- 4 minutes before attempting to open anything - all OK. Looks as though delay I had in receiving March's update, Microsoft have not addressed this issue in that release.
