The initial reason WaasMedicAgent started bogging down my machine every day starting 02/17/21 was that Windows Update kept trying to install "Xerox - Extension - 7.208.0.0" but failing. I found out the reason was that Xerox has two "types" of drivers: "Type 3" designed for desktop applications provide full control over all the printer's features (color / B&W, multi-page per sheet, font download / substitution etc); "Type 4" are designed for "Microsoft Store Apps" and are incredibly dumbed-down drivers that only provide access to options like single / double side, landscape portrait.
It turns out you can install both "types" but it makes two of the same printer appear in CP-"Devices and Printers" and you just have to keep track of which leads to the Type 4 vs Tyep 3 when accessing printer services from your applications. By installing the "Type 4" (in spite of having no interest in MS "Store Apps") the "Xerox - Extension - 7.208.0.0"successfully installed and WaasMedicAgent was satisfied.
Then, on or about 03/09/20 "2021-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20h2 for x64-based Systems (KB5000802)" installed itself. EVERY DAY THEREAFTER WINDOWS UPDATE "SUCCESSFULLY" RE-INSTALLS "Xerox Extension 7.208.0.0” TWO TO THREE TIMES PER DAY YET REPORTS:
“Error Encountered. A current driver on your PC may be better than the driver we're trying to install. We'll keep trying to install.”
This, of course, starts WaasMedicAgent which bogs down the machine for over an hour after each boot-up / re-boot causing the machine to b e unusable for the first hour and barely tolerable for the next two hours. (Click to open an application, go make yourself a cappuccino, return, get comfortable in your seat and the app window might just then appear on your desktop.)
Microsoft has a problem. It results from them pushing **** onto your system to FORCE you to use “Microsoft Store Apps”, a Microsoft Account login and / or cloud services whether you want them or not. They know the problem exists but just don’t give a damn about fixing it. PROOF: look how fast they made multiple updates to counter every workaround to get SECDRV dependent games to keep running on Windows (even to the point of updates to unsupported Windows version) trying to force gamers to the X-box app / platform). When it’s a case of their bottom line they will fix a problem in a heartbeat. But if it’s only a problem for users whose money is already in MS pockets, “fo-get about it”!
