Windows 10 update issue due to error 0x800f0831

Dear,

I'm on Windows 10 1903. Every few days the systems attempts to update itself but finally reverts.

KB4577671 error 0x800f0831

This drives me crazy.

I tried to get help from Microsoft support. During the last session they even deliberate managed to shut down my the computer while they where on remote assistance. End of shift? So far for my confidence I Microsoft support.

I checked a few things

  1. scf /scannow finds no problem
  2. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth results in

[=========                  15.5%                          ]

Error: 4448

The WOF driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I'm not smart enough to understand the log file.

  1. I attempted a full Windows 10 install from media it also failed. Problem during the second boot, whatever that means, and revert to the earlier version as well.

I'm not willing to reinstall this pc from scratch since I have some music editing applications configured and working in a way that I'm really doubt I can ever reconstruct it the same way.

I believe the problem is in the corrupted file encountered by dism. Can anyone help me out?

    Hi,

    Focus on the words on bold (resize your folder to read  the files full name) , you will find it.

     C:\Windows\Panther\xxxxxxx_appraiser_humanreadable.xml

    There is no file: C:\Windows\Panther\xxxxxxx_appraiser_humanreadable.xml, there is appraiser.sdb, Appraiser_DATA.ini, and Appraiser_TelemetryRunList.xml.

    Also My search does not work. It says indexing turned off (this is also a result of the current update fiasco of issues). I have tried to no avail to turn indexing on.

    However i located files except the one in windows on c drive.

    I did download media creation tool and went through the process and when it gets to the end of installation, it undoes changes made to computer and reverts back to a corrupt station.

    You guys keep saying to upload or download a panther file package but I have no idea where I am upposed to find these files so unless someone can provide a link to the files, noone knows how to get them, or at least, I dont.

    Find the panther files location below, it is on your C drive, type this pc and it, enter key, in the search field close to start button >  then your C drive will appear>double click on it the open windows folder and you will find panther folder and those files inside the folder

    C:\Windows\Panther\setuperr.log

    C:\Windows\Panther\setupact.log

    C:\Windows\Panther\xxxxxxx_appraiser_humanreadable.xml

    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.txt

    What am i supposed to do with the panther files? Do they have anything to do with fixing the problem?
