My Windows 10 Version 20H2 will not install the update 0x80004005.

Cracked it sunshine!!!

my hard drive finally failed, signs were there for a few months.

Changed 3 Tb Seagate 3.5 Sata for a 4Tb Samsung SSD, created USB Windows installer on lappy and started afresh.

nice new copy of windows, now fully up to date!

currently re-installing all the peripherals with loud Janes addiction, beer and smokes!

nothing lost thanks to NAS back ups.

Computer has a new lease of life, fast as ****!!!

Turns out that the issue with my failing hard drive was preventing my update but wasn't flagged or reported.

I am kinda guessing here, but i had tried everything through this thread and nothing worked.

If this is the case and the update failed due to hard disk issues, why isn't there an error code to reflect hardware issues??

I hope this can help someone else through the troubled update, maybe you should run a disk scan just in case (didn't help me tho, all came back good, then it died.....the signs were there........you know when you know....)

Oh well, onto Red Hot Chilli's and Bourbon N dry now. The sense of relief is intoxicating!

For downloading this update, you need at least 8GB RAM because when I was downloading it, my PC was using 6.9GB RAM(including all processes).

If you still can't download it, follow these steps:

* Reboot your pc successfully.

* Give it at least 10 minutes of time after opening the desktop.

* Check in Task Manager that all your programs are running properly and taking Very Low, Low or Moderate       amount of Power.(Open Task Manager by pressing  Ctrl + Shift + Esc.)

* Make sure you have enough free RAM and storage to download and install this update.

* Now close all the apps and open settings and check for updates at least two times(if there are updates other    than the 20H2 update, let them be installed first  and restart if needed and follow the above steps again.)

* Now click on download and install.

* Now don't run another program/application until it is finished.

*Give it at least 3 hours to download and install 20H2 version.

* Make sure that your PC is plugged in all the time and you are connected to internet all the time. Losing internet   connection even for once may cause it to fail.

* When it is completed you'll get a notification in which your system will ask you for restarting it.

  Close all the apps running and click on restart now.

* Then your PC should be updated to 20H2 version.

I've always kept automatic updates enabled, but it appears I'm still running version 1909 as well.  I'm not sure why it hasn't done the 2004 version before now getting hung up on the 20H2 version update.  Is there a way to try to install the 2004 version before the 20H2 version at all?

Used this link and it looks like it's finally downloaded and installed - took several hours but so far looks good! https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

This was the only way I was able to get it to work.  No errors or issues.
