I've been having crash issues for months now with no solution. I've been able to narrow it down to a windows issue but no solution seems to be available.

At random points during gaming (COD Warzone) the video card driver stops working and then immediately recovers. I get a black screen for around 5-10 seconds and that causes my game to crash. It is extremely frustrating.

I have done clean installs of Windows 10 64bit, tested with both NVidia and AMD GPU's, various video card drivers (up to 1 year old), and various other checks and setting changes.

I'm hoping that someone can please respond to help me figure out what is causing this issue because it is extremely frustrating.

Hey everyone, 

I have finally fixed this issue fixed on my PC. I'm so damn happy 😅

Changing my input from DisplayPort to HDMI resolved it. This fixes the crashing completely, even with two sticks of memory in dual-channel mode at full speed 3200Mhz.

This got me curious, since I saw that using HDMI limits my refresh rate to 100Hz. So, I switched back to DisplayPort but forced it to run at 120Hz instead of the full 144Hz. This also runs flawlessly with dual-channel memory and IMO confirms that 144Hz (combined with certain memory configurations) is somehow the causing the crashes.

I've ordered a new DisplayPort cable to see if it resolves the issue at 144Hz, but even if it doesn't I'll be happy with 120Hz since the 5600XT rarely gets above 120 FPS in games I play at 1440p anyway!

I hope this helps some of you.

EDIT: Sorry to hear about your new issue Tyler. I am on the latest Window 10 update and AMD drivers (I now have the full AMD Overlay etc installed) and have not run into that problem.

EDIT 2: New DisplayPort cable has the exact same issue at 144Hz. I can live with 120Hz so it's all good and no more crashes :)

    Out of all the suggestions and digging into settings and various logs, this is the only fix that worked for me, thank you! 

    For reference here are all the steps I tried to fix the 0x9F_3_DXG_POWER_IRP_TIMEOUT_amdkmdag!unknown_function issue:

    • Lowered the GPU frequency slightly (tip from this post). Didn't work and settings reverted after crash.
    • Enabled ErP and EnergyStar settings in BIOS. I don't see any harm leaving this enabled so I've left it on, still crashes.
    • Set PCIE to GEN 3 for the graphics card instead of AUTO (I have a gen3 graphics card). Again, no harm here, so left this setting as GEN3. Still crashes.
    • There's been some reported issues with the 500 series AMD motherboards and USB connectivity. I tried removing all USB devices minus keyboard and mouse and trying to use the Gen1 USB slots instead of using the Gen2, just to see if it's related. Nope..still crashes.
    • Tried uninstalling the AMD High Definition Audio Device as suggest from this thread. Didn't fix the issue, but it did end up making my system use the Microsoft provided driver. I'm leaving this as is, I see no need using the AMD issued one, sounds works. I can add it back if I see any audio issues down the road. Also, that thread is interesting and I may keep an eye on it for future developments..
    • There was a new driver release from AMD today (21.3.2). Tried updating, same result..crash.

    My setup:

    ASUS TUF X570-Plus

    Ryzen 5 3600

    XFX Radeon RX 590 Fatboy

    Thanks for your reply, sadly uninstalling amd Audio device nor reseating the card helped my issue so the card is going back to the store.

    1. Press Win X

    1. Choose Device Manager
    2. Go to Sound, video and game controllers
    3. Uninstall AMD High Definition Audio Device, make sure you checked the checkbox

    5. Go to menu Action

    1. Choose Scan for hardware changes

    Mine just change from AMD High Definition Audio Deviceinto High Definition Audio Device (it was that before).

    This is just 1 fix I did.

    The second fix is check GPU's connection slot, mine sagged so much 1/5 of the connector stick outside.

    Push it back in the slot, screw it in place and don't forget to say "That's not going anywhere".

    After that no more BSOD (though some random video crash black screen but maybe because I did not run DDU.

    How'd you do it? I want to try it before i rma my card, but the driver keeps reinstalling after every reboot.
