Windows 10 error 0xc1900101 and error 0xc1900101-0x20017 Repeatedly

Have tried so many resets I am surprised the hard drive is no knackered. Clean boots, disabling drivers, changing system configuration to hide all microsoft services and disabling non microsoft all fail with the same error.

I have tried all the things you are told to do by microsoft in their pages and still get the same error. Lenovo wipe their feet and say its beyond their support when asked. Nothing I have been told by any representative here has worked. The only thing I have yet to try is a clean install of windows 10!

The computer is as follows:

Lenovo Ideacentre 310s-08asr amd a9-9245 radeon r5 compute cores 2c+3G

8Gb Memory

860Gb free on hard drive

Razer Chroma keyboard

Windows Defender used no 3rd party

Have been told it is the mcafee boot protection but mcafee has been removed after every windows reinstallation, the mcafee removal tool three times.

The previous update via media creation too i tried update and that failed but gave no error code.

This time i tried the iso file and update and yet again it failed but this time i get error 0xc1900101-0x20017

When i use windows update i just get error 0xc1900101 and nothing else.

In the past i have disabled all non microsoft services and i have also disabled display adapters; Printers, sound, video and game controllers and did a restart and that failed also.

I have tried everything the advisers have said and that failed everytime.

    Hey Graham, I'm not a professional nor an advisor but I've been experiencing your same problem and error 0xc1900101-0x20017 for almost a year, being stuck on 1909 while trying to update to 2004 in May e to 20H2 in November, either using Windows Update, the update assistant  or the Media Creation Tool. I have to say that my machine is different from yours since I'm on an MSI B350 mobo and ryzen 5 1600 cpu but I hope that this can help you. After A LOT of research, frustration and posts in all kinds of forums included this one, having already tried clean boot/clean install/driver update/sfc/DISM/all sort of things really, I've finally updated my bios and installed W10 20H2 succesfully and the easy way too (Windows Update). If you look up for your error code you'll find out that those who have experienced this kind of issue solved it either by updating their bios or by removing their network adapter (voids the warranty so if you're still in your warranty period I personally don't advise it) or disabling it from the bios if the option is available. I understand that messing with the bios can be scary but if you follow the indications listed on the manufacturer's website I'm positive you'll do just fine. Remember to update the chipset and graphic card driver before attempting any of these actions. Best of luck.

    It may seem an option but it is not really. I would have to pay them £30 up front and repairs and that is deducted from those costs. Would have to trust the agent to collect the computer, them to sort it and the agent then to return it. You also have to trust they wont lose it, damage it or return a faulty it that is not repaired. When other than the update issue it is not showing any signs of a fault.

    When I have recovered the computer to initial setting using recover and the recovery usb stick it has done so without fault, as I have had the usb set as first in boot priority. When I have forgotten to remove the recovery drive, it has booted up to it, after recovery has ended.
