Update 20H2 won't install

Hello!

I noticed my pc needed to update, and clicked update and restart (for whatever reason, update and shutdown wasn't an option, just sleep, shutdown, or update and restart). Part of the way through the update my computer blue screened and restarted. After this, it rolled back what it had installed. When I got back into windows, update 20H2 had not installed, and I noticed that another update, KB4580980, was needed. When I attempted to install, it ran into errors. I restarted my computer, and attempted to install again, and this time despite not showing any errors, after restarting as requested, no update was applied, though update KB4580980 had installed. This time I tried to uninstall any updates I'd made today, but could only remove KB4580980. After restarting, it still won't update, and now KB4580980 won't install either.

I don't want to do any formats to my computer, because re-installing all my apps is annoying, and if a reset that doesn't delete my files doesn't work then I'll have to buy an external hard-drive to backup my data and do a complete format, which I'd also like to avoid.

Anyone have any idea what to do? Thanks for your help.

Try updating to version 20H2 using the Media Creation tool and if it fails let us know.

The fastest way to get the upgrade is through the Media creation tool or ISO file.

Please download Media Creation Tool from the link below and select Upgrade this PC at the first screen.

Same issues here, don't bother doing a full format and start from the beginning, I did that.... zero success. Back to 1909. Grrrr

Hi Sumit,

Creation Tool does not work for me, I have tried multiple times, I am totally stuck on 1909.

I tried a new tactic, join the insider program and jump to the latest version, 21H1. Guess what? It fails too!

To be clear I am trying this on top of a freshly formatted and newly installed Windows 10, stuck on 1909.

The error message for the 21H1 is 0xc19000101

The error message for the 20H2 is 0xc19000101

This must be an issue with a piece of my hardware, as as I have said, I have completely formatted my machine and started afresh, brand new install.

It has been for others.

You must back up your data.

If you have not cleaned it out copy the Download folder to another drive or to a USB flash drive and use it to install the downloaded programs rather than wandering all over the Internet to find those programs.
