Only while plugged in, the Laptop screen(goes black) doesn't respond after idle screen timeout.

Hello there,

I've been facing this issue since 2 years now, seems like a simple problem but mine is really weird, I didn't get any query regarding my issue hence I decided to post it myself. Please read my post completely and please help me resolve this issue.

When I leave the laptop (HP Pavilion 15-cc1xx, win 10 64 bit, Intel core i5-8250U) idle, the screen turns off to save power & doesn't respond to any inputs even external connected USB mouse light turns off (I saw that when this happens the HDD LED turns off I suppose the HDD is not waking). After screen turn off it is suppose to go to sleep but the power LED and fans are continuously on until I hard reboot using power button.

Here is the weird part--- This only happens if my laptop is plugged in and doesn't occur while on battery. The power options screen is shared below

I've tried doing almost all troubleshooting like updating drivers, BIOS, and sfc scan and also reset but all in vain.

Sometimes, this also happens when I put it to sleep, but this sleep issue occurs very rarely cannot predict when it happens I've to hold my breath when I press sleep and wait until the power LED starts blinking for confirmation or else I've to again hard reboot only to loose unsaved data. Although this sleep issue happens very very rarely.

I think the issue is only with HDD since the HDD LED stops blinking when this happens ***.***When it is blinking then I'm sure that the screen will turn on as I've seen it for myself many times.

    shutdown your computer >take out the battery from your laptop>then plug the power cable> start your computer and tell me know how your laptop reacts. 

    My battery is not removable from outside. it's inside

    Hi,

    Regarding your title "Only while plugged in, the Laptop screen(goes black)" 

    Is it the power adapter the issue or maybe the power management settings?

    And one more thing I wanted to tell you why now I 1000% believe the issue lies in Intel mgmt engine Interface because, I told you that the issue only occurs while plugged in, but when I check the option "Allow the computer to turn off..." in Intel MEI power mgmt, I noticed that it started happening on battery also and so I immediately unchecked that option and the issue only occurred while plugged in. As Robin suggested a HP site link which told me to downgrade the version of this driver but the last ver I found for my PC was 11 but the HP site says 9.5 is most stable & works with most of the PCs so if you find it please share it.

    My hardware ID(I don't know which one is used to find so I'm giving all that driver details section has):

    Hi, I know its been a while after the last post but my issue is still not fixed, but I think I found out what the problem is. I told you that my PC was working fine when HP software was not installed but another thing that i noticed then was when I woke my PC from standby the network was disconnected(this is when I didn't have the issue) so I suppose that the OS was going in S3 sleep state which my PC officially supports and now I think the OS is trying to put it to S0 sleep state which in cmd i saw it said that it is not supported in my firmware i think its going to S0 because some site said that in this S0 state network doesn't get disconnected as it is happening now to my PC.

    I double check it in system information and saw even device encryption is not running for some reasons because my pc doesn't support modern standby.

    What do you think is it because win is trying to put the PC to sleep forcefully in S0 mode and that's where its getting stuck and not coming back or something else?
