Issue with Windows Hello on Windows 11 - fingerprint recognition option currently unavailable

Hi, I’m having an issue adding a new fingerprint on Windows 11, when I click on the sign in options it says “this option is currently unavailable” and to try again later, the button to set up another finger is greyed out. Log in is working with the fingerprint I have set up put I want to use another finger. What can I do to solve this? My laptop is the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 if that helps any. Thanks xx

    • One solution is to update or reinstall your fingerprint driver. To do this, you need to open Device Manager, go to Biometric devices or Human Interface Device, right-click on your fingerprint reader, and select Update driver or Uninstall device. Then, restart your computer and check if the fingerprint option is available.

    There isn't an option for Biometric devices in Device Manger nor is there a fingerprint reader in the Human Interface Device.

    did anybody get anywhere with this? I have the same trouble- in fact I have had the same trouble and others with the upgrade to windows 11 that rode back onthe update 5 times- this time my computer automatically upgraded me when i restarted and now won't let me roll back again! what's the point of a software upgrade that downgrade's your computer!!

    I was able to get to the point where it asked me to repeatedly place my finger on the finger print pad and remove it, but no matter how long I spent doing this there were no signs of progress or this step coming to an end.

    How did you resolve this? I'm facing the exact same problem.

    I face the similar issues. Until last update the fingerprint login was working fine, after the update it stopped working and as mentioned above workaround I tried to fin the fingerprint reader under Human Interface Devices but its not there. Please advice use steps to re-install it.

    This is an ongoing issue for which I have yet to find a permanent solution. I corrected it once by doing an in-place upgrade. But the next time any update happens, the fingerprint sign-in becomes unavailable. My "FPC Fingerprint Reader (Disum)" shows as not working in Device Manager and the option is not available in settings.
