1. Limit FPS to 120FPS via Nvidia control panel

2. set power management to "adaptive" in Nvidia control panel

3. Usw MSI Afterburner and add a flat -50MHz to VRAM, and lower power limit to 80%

~~One note though, I don't have the "adaptive" power management option on the Nvidia control panel, but that might have something to do with me using Studio drivers instead of Game drivers.~~

Even though I appreciated the input striken above, which improved a bit the reliability, in the end it didn't work. 

After two entire days (didn't happen for a few months now), I can say that I have no freezing issues anymore, without using Afterburner. 

The only setting which made a difference on my MSI Ventus 4070 Ti 3X 12G OC (read in the nVidia forums) is to change "**Power Management**" to "**maximum performance**".

Again, this is for very low GPU loads, just for using the computer I had lockups. Hope it helps someone. 

I don't have any other specific settings applied other than using PCIe gen3 instead of gen4 which was impossible to use with my Asus B550-i.   
  
**Edit**: even considering the improvements above, I still had issues with the board. I ended up removing it and reseating it with as best care possible, and that resolved the issue (no issues for months now).

Sounds good. I'll do the opposite on my end if it comes to it.

i had this problem for MONTHS now with every effing game i played. i literally stopped playing destiny because i could not finish a single session without multiple random crashes. i had it with diablo 4, then ac6 and now it started with starfield. Since i did what you recommened i played without a single (!) crash for multiple days now. thanks for that.

here comes my question though: this solutiion seems to combat the symptoms (crashing) but i´m still baffled about the root cause. Is it an insuffient PSU? a faulty GPU? Hardware incompatability? Any further input from your side would be greatly appreciated.

Please try installing a couple of slightly older versions of that driver to try to find a version that is stable on your PC.
