cannot rename bluetooth device on Win 11

None of these worked for me as nothing happens when we click on the Bluetooth device in the Settings app (either in the "Bluetooth & devices" section or "Bluetooth & devices > Devices" section. Clicking on the three dots button in front of the device name only gives two options "disconnect" and "remove device".

The Control Panel solution also takes one to the Settings app when we click on the Device and Printers.

However, I found that I could rename my Bluetooth device in the Settings app by following the steps given below.

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Select System from the left pane.
3. Select Sound from the right pane.
4. Click on the device, that you want to rename, from the list under "Output" (at the top).
5. At the top, below the device name, click the Rename button.
6. A new dialog will open where you could rename your device.
7. After renaming the device, click on the Rename button in the dialog to confirm.

SUGGESTION:

Please allow the users to rename a Bluetooth device right from the "Bluetooth & devices" section as that's the most convenient way. Clicking on the device should open a device details page where one should be allowed to rename the device. Preferably, the three dots button in front of the Bluetooth device name should list the option to "Rename". Thanks!

I think you're the best! Windows helpdesk sucks bigtime. Just ridiculous you have the right solution and they let you fiddle about with Power Shell. Highly NOT recommendable...

I know this thread is old but I want to chip in.

I found this solution on a site called Super User. I had some trouble renaming some bluetooth earbuds I bought off Amazon. They are called KTGEE model T08.

1. Go to Control Panel
2. Go to Devices and Printers
3. Right Click on the device you want to change the name of and select properties
4. Click the Bluetooth Tab
5. Change the name to whatever you want
6. Click Okay/Apply and close the window
7. Right click on the device again and click "Remove Device"
8. Pair your device to your computer again
9. At this point, in the device selection window it should show the new device name that you just chose
10. If it does not show your new device name that you picked then it didn't work.
11. If it DID show the name you picked then finish the pairing and connect to your device. Go to settings and bluetooth and make sure the name is still changed
12. If the device still has the new name, restart the computer and after booting, check the device name again to make sure it stuck.
13. If the device name is still changed then congrats, it worked.

This work for Bluetooth headset but I was not able to rename the Designer mouse and keyboard. Received "Renaming device failed". Seems to work with only certain devices but not all connected devices
