cannot rename bluetooth device on Win 11

I am unable to change the name of my bluetooth ear buds. I have tried the control panel/hardware and devices/ properties but there is no "bluetooth" tab or option to rename. I am using Win 11 Home Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621. Please help.

There's one simple you can do it,

Open your "Action Centre" on Win 11(hit Windows key + A)

Right-click on your Bluetooth and click on "Go to settings"

Click on "View more devices" and scroll all the way down

There should be an option as "More devices and printer settings", Click on it

it should open up a classic menu with all of your devices

Double-click on the Bluetooth device that you want to rename which should open up a small window of your device

Now click on the "Bluetooth" tab

Now Click on name of your device and enter your preferred name

Now hit "Apply" and "Ok"

It might not change the name right away

but you can simply disconnect and reconnect and now you should see your device with your new name

The key here is to disconnect the device. No matter how many times you try, or the methods, it will not change unless you disconnect and reconnect.

I had the exact same issue as far as not having the "Bluetooth" tab appear under properties no matter which method I tried. But your method of opening the control panel with admin rights was the ABSOLUTELY ONLY THING THAT WORKED!!

Now, why i don't automatically have admin rights as the only user of this laptop is beyond me, but super super thankful for your solution!!! This should solve everyone else's problem with this same issue.

I use specific brand of bluetooth device that I like. I have 10 of them. They all show up as a bluetooth device to pair with in my list with the EXACT. SAME. NAME. I want to pair my device. I have one of the ten with me. I have a list of 10 disconnected devices with the same name. How do I know which one to pair to without attempting to pair with all 10 until I find the one that I am currently using? I use the simple process of renaming them to something unique, something every other operating system can do easily, with intuitive steps. why Microsoft makes this so ridiculously hard to do and so hidden is beyond my understanding, but I have finally found the steps, and here they are:

the key to this is that you need to get to the old "devices and printers" page, and windows will try very hard to steer you away from this page for their own "using our OS should be difficult and annoying" philosophy reasons.

PRESS WINDOWS KEY + I

LEFT COLUMN - SELECT "Bluetooth & devices"

Then select "Devices"

then select "More devices and printer settings"

find device on this page

right-click and select "properties"

select the "Bluetooth" tab

rename device

note: device must be disconnected for this to stick

Last step should be "turn off bluetooth and turn back on" Only then will you see the change in the name.

Your post tipped me in the direction of removing one device. Then I could finally rename the remainig one.
