Unable to remove or reconnect bluetooth headset

I am trying to connect my Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones to my PC, they used to connect but now they wont.

The device is listed as paired and when I click connect, it says "Connecting" where it currently says paired in the image, but only for less than a second, then it goes back to saying 'Paired".

So then I try removing the device in hopes I can re pair and connect it, but is simply says "Removing Device" for about 5 seconds and then says removed failed.

I know the bluetooth works on the computer fine as I have connected bluetooth controllers to it, and the headphones bluetooth works as I can connect it to other devices as well.

I have already tried removing it via device manager, by right clicking "WH- 1000XM3" and clicking uninstall.

Other solutions I found online and havent work for me include

  • going to device manager, restarting the device association service and clicking remove device (still says remove failed)
  • running the bluetooth troubleshooter
  • updating windows and bluetooth driver

any assistance would be appreicated

I finally figured out what the problem was

Apparently, if you use a previous Bluetooth USB Adapter, and then replace it with a new one, the system still detects the USB still being functional in the PC (Even when the USB is already replaced) You want to open up Device Manager>>View>>Show Hidden Devices,

then you want to click on Bluetooth and it should show the old Bluetooth USB drivers, and you're gonna want to delete the drivers that have already been replaced then your headphones should finally disconnect by its self.

(P.S after you do this, you want to reconnect your Bluetooth USB Adapter for one last time and it should detect your headphones when you pair it again.)

    We used a headset of the same model as yours: WH-1000XM3, and the result reproduced your situation. Initially I was able to connect successfully, but when I put the headset on hold for a while, then the headset would not connect again. To further narrow down the problem, I suggest you contact Sony-Support to see if there are any bugs or known issues with that model of headset recently.

    sorry about the delayed response, but it doesnt seem to have fixed my problem

    I first uninstalled bluetooth as seen below

    I deleted the keys from the registry

    but it still wont remove or connect.

    what did change after doing this however, is now when searching for new devices, my headset shows up, though it is unable to connect as seen in the image below

    and when I click connect on the stuck device, gives the message below

    (the other headset, microsoft one, is just to show that bluetooth works, not actually my headset just borrowed it)

    Any additional help would be appreciated
