Big problems with M4A after updating to Windows 11 22H2

Dear colleagues, after updating Windows 11 to 22H2, there were significant problems with playing files purchased from iTunes in .m4a (AAC, ALAC) format. This problem has been fixed by a lot of people all over the world and is especially evident on the DJ forums. Problems are observed with the quality of playback, and with the volume and with a number of other parameters. This problem is detected on software that uses the built-in Windows 11 22H2 codecs (on earlier versions, the problem is not observed), Windows Media Player, RekordBox, Serato DJ Pro, etc. On players that use their own codecs (VLC, iTunes, JetAudio HD, etc.) there is no problem. When converting m4a to mp3, there are no problems. The volume and waveform fluctuations seem to have been fixed! I did notice a small thing (on Rekordbox at least) where the volume of purchased AAC/M4A tracks are noticably louder than the MP3 and manually encoded AAC/M4A versions. This should hopefully be a non-issue since we can manually dial down the gain very easily on our controllers, but I just thought that I'd point that out.

2024-03-12T21:18:36+00:00 Pete, as I understand it, Microsoft’s mockery of millions of users continues with particular cynicism? The next update came out today, so what? Ahhhh, of course, we need to wait another month? Or two? Or a year? Or five? The guys from Apple will support a massive lawsuit from users, apparently otherwise it will no longer be possible to force Microsoft to do its job honestly. But a class action lawsuit and fines in all countries will apparently help solve the problem instantly, without dragging it out for years. :-(

Even just by looking at the waveform, it’s immediately clear that Microsoft has created yet another misery. In the left deck there is m4a (mutilated by Microsoft) in the right there is a normal MP3. M4a playback is just as slow and poor as the videos sent to you earlier from other guys.
