Mouse click randomly stops working in windows 11

I have an issue, its on my Dell precision 3561, windows 11.

The click function stops working randomly but in a weird way... Im still able to click on text boxes (in teams for example) but I cannot click to change applications, close a window, click and drag etc. The fix to get my mouse to work again is to use CTRL + ALT + DEL which somehow resets the function. Then I am able to use my mouse again normally for a few minutes before it might stop again.

Some days this happens frequently, every few minutes, sometimes the computer will go a few weeks without having the issue. I have tried using a plug in mouse and the same issue persists. ie, I do not believe this is an issue with the mouse itself. It feels more like windows explorer itself needs to be reset?

Its incredibly frustrating when its happening frequently and I'm very keen to find a fix! Is anyone else having the same issue?

I understand the issue you have, there is nothing to worry I am here to help, this issue happens due to the miscalibration of system files, in addition, are there any changes before the issue starts? like have you downloaded or installed any apps, that you think may trigger the issue? while waiting for your response, kindly follow the steps below:

Method 1. Clear cache of File Explorer

-Open Run Command ( Press Windows key + R)

-Copy, paste, and enter the file path below:

%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

Delete everything inside the AutomaticDestinations folder

-Restart PC and check

Method 2. Do clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

  • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
  • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
  • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
  • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
  • Close Task Manager.
  • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Note: If the issue persists, try to change the mouse just to check, if the issue persists, we may need to roll back mouse driver and or run system repair.

    I've noticed "Razer" alot in this thread. I was also using a razer pro click mini, and had the same problem. The left click worked sometimes, but usually I had to do a slow double click to get it to work. Really frustrating. I replaced the razer with a cheap usb mouse, an Adesso M40. No longer available. It works fine. I also saw that wired mice worked fine.

    Since it worked before, it may be that microsoft updated a driver that then cause the Razer to have an issue. I think Microsoft needs to fix their driver update. I'm not sure what Razer can do. They may need to do a firmware update to match Microsoft's botched driver update. Knowing Microsoft, this will not get fixed by them.

    Interim solution: use another mouse not affected by this driver bug.

    My situation is that the Razer mouse button had become damaged. I traveled with it, and I think it had undue amount of pressure on that mouse button. It only worked if I pushed it very hard. So, I had to replace it. Problem solved.

    Interesting. This Microsoft mouse (Wheel mouse Optical USB and PS/2 compatible) has been used for years.

    There was a driver with some I2C text in the name.

    Removed the mouse driver.

    Re-plugged the Mouse, and now the new added driver is named : Microsoft USB Wheel mouse Optical

    See what happens, as this takes a random while before the click is disabled.

    EDIT: no improvement. Clicking within windows fails again.

    I just started experiencing the left mouse click problem last night for the first time. I'll document my experience here in case it may help someone else. I don't know if what I found is the root problem, but I'm hoping it helps point to a possible source of the problem.

    I purchased a new HP Victus gaming desktop a month ago. I set it up and used a Logitech M720 wireless mouse that I've owned for a few years. Everything worked properly until last night. I had been using the computer on a Wednesday, then went away for a long weekend and left the computer on and when I came back on the next Tuesday, the mouse problem started up. I had done no updates of any kind.

    I started troubleshooting and determined that if I disconnected that mouse and rebooted, any other mouse that I connected to the computer worked fine, As soon as I reconnected the M720, either via bluetooth or via the USB dongle, the problem started and persisted regardless of which mouse I used. Note that I tried both corded and wireless, generic and Logitech. Only the one M720 mouse triggered the problem. I uninstalled all Logitech software and uninstalled all reference to any of the mice I used, rebooted and as long as I didn't connect that M720 mouse, everything worked fine.

    At this point I remembered that I had purchased a new M720 mouse a year or two ago, but had never even opened the package. I decided to try that one as well and when I hooked the new one up to the computer it worked fine. At this point I don't have any of the Logitech Options software installed and I'm not going to do that in hopes that the new M720 mouse will continue working.

    So what have I learned? Nothing certain, but my working theory is that the Logitech Options software may have updated the firmware in my old M720 mouse and it's that firmware that somehow triggers the problem with the operating system. I have no idea how valid that argument is or if it's even possible, but that's the only thing I can think of.

    As of this writing I haven't used the new M720 for very long, so the problem may begin to manifest itself again, but for now I'm back to having a functional computer.

    I have the same or very similar. In a lot of programs the mouse click stops reacting within the window. However resizing the window reactivates the possibility to click in a window. Resizing is switching from sized to max boundary. This also happens for sub-windows within an APP. Resizing those re-enables the click (interrupt) for that subwindow.
