Mouse click randomly stops working in windows 11

I have an issue, its on my Dell precision 3561, windows 11.

The click function stops working randomly but in a weird way... Im still able to click on text boxes (in teams for example) but I cannot click to change applications, close a window, click and drag etc. The fix to get my mouse to work again is to use CTRL + ALT + DEL which somehow resets the function. Then I am able to use my mouse again normally for a few minutes before it might stop again.

Some days this happens frequently, every few minutes, sometimes the computer will go a few weeks without having the issue. I have tried using a plug in mouse and the same issue persists. ie, I do not believe this is an issue with the mouse itself. It feels more like windows explorer itself needs to be reset?

Its incredibly frustrating when its happening frequently and I'm very keen to find a fix! Is anyone else having the same issue?

I understand the issue you have, there is nothing to worry I am here to help, this issue happens due to the miscalibration of system files, in addition, are there any changes before the issue starts? like have you downloaded or installed any apps, that you think may trigger the issue? while waiting for your response, kindly follow the steps below:

Method 1. Clear cache of File Explorer

-Open Run Command ( Press Windows key + R)

-Copy, paste, and enter the file path below:

%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

Delete everything inside the AutomaticDestinations folder

-Restart PC and check

Method 2. Do clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
Close Task Manager.
On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Note: If the issue persists, try to change the mouse just to check, if the issue persists, we may need to roll back mouse driver and or run system repair.

When is Microsoft going to address this issue? have been happening for over 2 years and there's no fix. no, your ctrl + alt + del it's not a fix, neither Windows Key + L. or a fresh install or a clean boot. NONE are fixes. they're temporary solutions (if you can call having to do a cltr + alt + del EACH MINUTE a temporary solution)

This issue makes your whole OS a brick. it's unusable, not having the ability to click anything anywhere on your OS it's like going anywhere with a car that doesn't have a motor. Microsoft doesn't seem to care about any of its customers since all the replies are from volunteers who gladly seem to help (to some people, none of their fixes helped me). There's no official statement. there's no bug number, no case not anything. just an OS that nobody needed and somehow, it's still the standard.

Such a shameful company.

Interesting. This Microsoft mouse (Wheel mouse Optical USB and PS/2 compatible) has been used for years.

There was a driver with some I2C text in the name.

Removed the mouse driver.

Re-plugged the Mouse, and now the new added driver is named : Microsoft USB Wheel mouse Optical

See what happens, as this takes a random while before the click is disabled.

EDIT: no improvement. Clicking within windows fails again.

Roll back and do a systems repair? Seriously to fix a mouse that was working 10 hours ago? I just can't with this company. Microsoft sucks!!!!!

I was playing a legacy RTS game and it became increasingly hard to select units with a bounding rectangle, by moving the pointer while keeping the left button down on my trackball. When doing that slowly, it would look like the rectangle was expanding normally, then it would restart drawing the rectangle from wherever the pointer was. The next stage was, whatever I seemed to be selecting got unselected as soon as I let go of the left button. Later, I got no bounding rectangle at all, just the pointer moving. At some point in the process, selecting an individual unit by left-clicking on it became harder, needing the button held down for a second, then two seconds, and it became less likely to work at all. After (somehow) managing to finish the game, I was looking into fixes and it seemed to mostly fix itself, most of the time. I'd opened Task Manager, and maybe (just guessing) that produced a temporary fix, even though I opened it by right-clicking on the Task Bar, and not by Ctrl-Alt-Delete and selecting it. Anyway I thought maybe the sequence of degradation of function might give some clue as to what the problem is. On a laptop bought new from Dell last September, running Windows 11.
