How to stop Windows 11 updates forever?

I've noticed there is no option to stop windows updates: There is only a nonsensical pause option. Even though I set updates to OFF it still updates after some time which is totally not what I need. The thing is my hard ware is really old and I can't risk new updates like the one I got now totally screwed my machine, I can't run any programs anymore they take forever to open now. Please help how do I stop these updates from happening?

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

You can deactivate the windows update service directly in services .msc, but when deactivating the microsft store system, among others, they stop working without automatic updating.

01: for this, press the shortcut 'Windows + R' and type "services.msc".

02: right-click on “Windows Update” and then go to “Properties”;

03: under “Startup type”, as in the example below, choose the “Disabled” option from the drop-down menu and click “Apply”.

04: finally, restart your computer to complete the procedure and ensure that the search for new updates is disabled.

Caution when disabling windows update is a security risk at your own risk.

    I understand. As someone who has worked in both environments, I can tell you Apple may cost more up front, but you can keep your computer running and updated for a long time. My Microsoft laptop cost $1100 in 2020. It is not incompatible with the Windows 11 software and if I can not find a way to stop the updates, I must buy a new laptop. I have been fighting this update issue for more than a year, so basically my computer became obsolete after 2 1/2 years. In contrast, my late 2015 27-inch iMac is still running beautifully.. Each time I get an update notice, Apple runs an analysis to insure compatibility. If it's not compatible, they tell me and do not install. I am not forced into "automatic updates". Eight years is a long time in the computer world. Paid $2000 for my iMac.

    It is really frustrating me that updates are forced on the customer. The last update disappeared my taskbar and I had to spend a lot of time getting a fix. The update was the problem and uninstalling the update fixed the issue. But now I have to constantly ensure the update is not reinstalled. Very, very frustrating.

    Well, MS itself recommends stopping updates just to pacify its best customers, who fell for MS BS, and spent money on some much tooted feature that MS later dropped without any notice. By stopping updates, they can use what they paid for but lost, just a little bit longer. I'm really bitter about the discontinuation of Mixed Reality. I spent a lot of money on games (Beat Saber, Half Life, etc.), headsets (hundreds of $), cables and cable management, etc.

    So I have disabled Windows updates on my W11 by editing the Registry.

    Open RegEdit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

    Create a folder named WindowsUpdate. Then create a subfolder in it called AU.

    On the right-hand side of the screen, right-click anywhere. Under the New option, select the option DWORD (32-bit) Value.

    Add new value there and name it “NoAutoUpdate”. Then press Enter to save the changes.

    Then change its value to 1.

    Save and close everything and reboot.

    Your changes will show up in Settings -> Windows Update -> Advanced Options -> Configured Update Policies

    Thanks. I did finally go into the registry and change settings. It appears to be disabled now.
