WIndows 11 Driver Security Question

I’m usually a Mac user normally but have just bought a new Windows 11 Laptop for work and having a couple of teething issues.

I have an external CD drive that I’ve used with my Mac for ages, but it is compatible for both Windows and Mac. When I plug the drive into the Windows Laptop I get a pop up saying that the driver can’t be installed due to Microsoft Security, and on following the help it says that I need to turn off memory integrity in the core isolation section of security. If I do this the drive works.

The problem with this is that I don’t want the memory integrity off all the time and it’s a pain having to turn it off and on every time I use the CD drive, especially as it requires a restart. Is there a workaround anyone knows of? Can you set specific items to bypass the security settings?

The driver in question is GEARAspiWDM.sys, and a quick google tells me this is a driver that allows CD recording capabilities to iTunes.

I’ve looked at other CD drives and they’re all compatible with Mac and Windows so I’m guessing if I bought a new drive I’d run into the same issues?

Any help would be appreciated.

    Well I can't even do a fresh install, I follow these instructions to the letter and watch the video. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsinsider/cleaninstall

    When I get to this page the trackpad doesn't work and there's no cursor so Inhave to use TAB, arrows and enter to navigate

    Then when I get to the install page and click install it doesn't take me to the next page shown in the video, instead it says it can't find the driver location

    I'm just in the process of formatting the USB drive again, and then will redownload the Windows Installer and try again. No idea why it's throwing up so many issues :(

    Thanks, it's been pretty troublesome that's for sure. Is there a way to get the touchpad to work in the setup pages, on the video I linked to on the Microsoft page they can use the mouse point?

    That may be a problem with BIOS, it is not a Windows settings or driver issue since Windows is not loaded at that point.

    Thanks, I don't actually know what that is?

    In the meantime iLok have got back to me about the errors when trying to install their licence manager, it's a bit of a foreign language to me in all honesty.

    Should this all be happening with a brand new laptop? Is it worth trying to exchange it?
