I’m usually a Mac user normally but have just bought a new Windows 11 Laptop for work and having a couple of teething issues.
I have an external CD drive that I’ve used with my Mac for ages, but it is compatible for both Windows and Mac. When I plug the drive into the Windows Laptop I get a pop up saying that the driver can’t be installed due to Microsoft Security, and on following the help it says that I need to turn off memory integrity in the core isolation section of security. If I do this the drive works.
The problem with this is that I don’t want the memory integrity off all the time and it’s a pain having to turn it off and on every time I use the CD drive, especially as it requires a restart. Is there a workaround anyone knows of? Can you set specific items to bypass the security settings?
The driver in question is GEARAspiWDM.sys, and a quick google tells me this is a driver that allows CD recording capabilities to iTunes.
I’ve looked at other CD drives and they’re all compatible with Mac and Windows so I’m guessing if I bought a new drive I’d run into the same issues?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ran the installation, it’s now been stuck at 73% on the black screen for ages, no idea how to fix it, I don’t want to turn the computer off as that could cause problems part way through an install, but equally I don’t want to leave it on all night.
Ended up leaving it on all night, eventually updated at 4.11am this morning. It still won't install the iLok licence manager though so I'm giving up on trying to use that software.

Well I ended up leaving it on overnight and this morning it's done the update, I got a "welcome to Windows 11" email at 4.11am this morning so it clearly took a while. I'll try installing the software later.

Please do not change permissions on the C drive, that will cause huge problems with Windows and you would need to re-install Windows.
With the number of problems you are experiencing the best option is to perform an in-place repair with the Windows 11 ISO.
Please follow the steps, this is then just an update and your personal files, settings and installed software will not be affected.

Disconnect from the Internet
Disconnect all external devices with the exception of a mouse or keyboard.
Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed
Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the upgrade option.
OK, I've done all this however if I don't have the internet/wifi on then setup doesn't do anything, when I have WiFi on there's no option to upgrade it just checks for updates
And once this has completed I get this window. It says that it will leave all my files and apps so I assume the myASUS app will remain? Despite not wanting bloatware it does actually have some useful controls in that aren't in Windows 11, especially different screen calibrations.
