I’m usually a Mac user normally but have just bought a new Windows 11 Laptop for work and having a couple of teething issues.
I have an external CD drive that I’ve used with my Mac for ages, but it is compatible for both Windows and Mac. When I plug the drive into the Windows Laptop I get a pop up saying that the driver can’t be installed due to Microsoft Security, and on following the help it says that I need to turn off memory integrity in the core isolation section of security. If I do this the drive works.
The problem with this is that I don’t want the memory integrity off all the time and it’s a pain having to turn it off and on every time I use the CD drive, especially as it requires a restart. Is there a workaround anyone knows of? Can you set specific items to bypass the security settings?
The driver in question is GEARAspiWDM.sys, and a quick google tells me this is a driver that allows CD recording capabilities to iTunes.
I’ve looked at other CD drives and they’re all compatible with Mac and Windows so I’m guessing if I bought a new drive I’d run into the same issues?
Any help would be appreciated.

As for re-installing Bitlocker, it is a known bug that is enabled in the home edition, because it should not be possible, many people have lost a lot of data due to Bitlocker being automatically enabled, but it is caused by the original disk image the PC manufacturer used to install that device.

At the very start of the Installation Process, press Shift + F10, or Shift + Fn + F10 to open Command Prompt
Run this command and hit Enter:
diskpart
Run this command and hit Enter:
list disk
(Make note of the disk number you want to wipe and enter it into the next command - replace X)Run this command and hit Enter:
select disk X
Run this command and hit Enter:
clean
Run this command and hit Enter:
convert gpt
Then close Command Prompt and restart the installation.
Thanks very much. When you say right at the start, exactly which phase are you talking? Will I be able to reinstate bitlocker, and is it a necessary tool to have enabled?
I'm actually just doing a reset at the moment ready for it to be returned (settings>recovery>Reset PC, but knowing how to bypass bitlocker to do a fresh install on the new device will be handy.

Got it to find the driver but it can't install it as the C; drive is encrypted and it says to turn off the BitLocker. I've tried to do this under Settings>System>Storage>Disks & Volumes and when I click on "Turn off Bitlocker" and the new window opens, under "Operation system drive" there is only the option to back up your recovery key, suspend protection and turn off bitlocker options aren't there. The weird thing is, on the ASUS page it says that BitLocker isn't available on Windows Home so I'm not sure why there for me as I have Windows Home.
