One of the most useful shortcuts I use all the time is not working for me on my new laptop with Windows 11. I used to use ALT + TAB to switch between the current window and the last window I used. Now if I use it it switches between the current window and the first open window (not the most recent). How can I get it so it switches between the two most recently used?

I am new to Windows 11, but my solution is to use the touchpad. Rest three fingers on it and a panel is brought up. Move your fingers to the right or left to select a window to move to. If you move your fingers down, the desktop will appear. This solution might not work for older touchpads, but Windows 11 cannot as yet be installed on older devices. I don't know how you would go with a mouse on a desk top PC but there is possibly a similar solution.
You need to select 'Don't show tabs' in 'Multitasking'. As pictured.
This does not work on my windows 11 box. With "Don't show tabs", pressing ALT-TAB briefly shows open windows, but does not switch between them.
It's not transitive, pressing once sometimes switches, but pressing again does not switch back.
So I do ALT+TAB to switch to my text editor. Then to switch back to the other app I have to press ALT+TAB+TAB.
Quickly pressing ALT+TAB does nothing! It's very inconsistent behavior. Between chrome and VS Code, ALT+TAB seems to switch. But between Lightroom and VS Code, it does not.
Please fix your software Microsoft!
This doesn't work. NOTHING works in regards to system and control panel anymore in Windows 11. Nothing works from the start menu. I have to know all the latest keyboard shortcuts to open anything!!! I want Windows 10 back.
If there were only an alternative, I would not be using this OS. They are deliberately sacrificing productivity to force you to buy their extensions and apps.
The Alt + Tab feature had been a productivity enhancer for decades and they removed it. I am not sure if their engineers and developers are also doing work like us.
