That worked, many thanks! I had to deactivate it in the past due to another issue: appreadiness and slow login. Now back to my first issue: try to shorten the explorer startup without disabling the appreadiness service :)

Please open Services.msc and set the App Readiness service to Manual. That ought to resolve the issue.

(For more info, see "Step 1: Start the App Readiness service" in this article Fix for Windows Update Error 0x800F0922 in Windows 10/11)

If possible, share your CBS logs on OneDrive and share the link here.

    • c:\windows\logs\cbs\                   <= Zip and upload all files in this folder.

Update keeps failing during restart, and when my computer restarts, it has a critical error where my start menu isn't working that can't seem to be fixed.

Same issue: install works, then during reboot if fails at 96% of the upgrade process. After automated rollback start menu and search are not working anymore with a crtitical error message.

I tried several solutions, none of them worked:

    1. restart in safe mode => does not fix anything
    2. rollback to previous snapshot and install KB from MS catalog manually => same issue at 96%
    3. ran update troubleshooter, restart and re-install => same issue at 96%

I see quite a lot of people having the same issue with no solution.

I'm now stuck, unable to install the cumulative fix.

Any solution or fix will be highly appreciated, is MS working on this?

Still trying to find a solution...

    Tried sfc and DISM.exe

    1. sfc fixed some files
    2. for DISM everything's fine

result is exactly the same: rollback during reboot at 96% and start menu and search not working. I again had to restore to a previous snapshot.

0x800f0922 is the error showing in updates history.

I still completly stuck and the only way I have to keep a working PC is to disable upgrades for a while.
