All USB devices Disconnect randomly on Windows 11.

This is another helpful information.

Both times that the PCs had the USB disconnect issue was when I used the front panel USB 3 for my external SSD. I'll wait another day to see if the issue stopped with the steps I already took, then I'll try the USB 3 at the back of the PC for my external drive see if that'll still trigger the issue.

L.E.: Well, I guess front panel/external drive being the culprit can be taken out of the equation, I turned off everything yet it still happened twice.

L.L.E: Another friend just told me that he has the same issue while playing "The Finals". So this is a wider issue.

Update: I've started having them more often yesterday, today I updated my BIOS [wasn't updated in 3 years], and I also installed the motherboard's chipset drivers.

This means that ticking off the "Let windows turn of this device to save power" is not the issue.

The updates did creep back in without me actually installing them.

I'll see if the updated bios and chipset drivers did the trick.

I also have the same problem with random connection and disconnection of USB peripherals with Windows 11. Sometimes they reconnect, other times I have to restart the PC because even the keyboard and mouse stop working.

I have tried different mice and keyboards, but the problem persists. Sometimes everything works perfectly for days, then it happens frequently, and then everything is fine again.

It is very frustrating, especially while working, as there is a risk of losing all the work done. I have always been a Windows user, but this is making me want to stop using Win11, revert to Win10, and disable all updates to avoid it updating to 11 again even if I don't want it (as has already happened to me).

Here is something that might help identify the problem.

In trying to find a solution by doing a clean installation of Windows 11, I formatted and reinstalled, but the problem reappeared. This issue with the mouse stopping working happened to me during the installation of Windows 11. It completely froze on the first screen AFTER the operating system was installed.

Here is my PC configuration (purchased in April 2023):

CPU: Intel Core i9 13900KF
Motherboard: AsusTek Prime Z790-P
BIOS version 0809 01/06/2023
RAM: 128GB DDR5
Graphic Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

Currently, to isolate the problem and ensure it is a USB issue, I am using the mouse and keyboard connected to a Type-C Hub.

Thinking about it, on Windows 10 with different hardware (from 2011), I did experience storage peripherals disconnecting and reconnecting. However, it happened very rarely, and it never occurred with the mouse and keyboard as frequently as it does on Windows 11.

In Device Manager I see 2 devices for mouse and 3 for keyboard. Coould this be the cause?

I hope that Microsoft, before developing new poorly functioning operating systems, fixes the errors and develops one that works well like they used to.

So, my latest update is that:

Neither updating the BIOS to the latest version, neither updating the chipset drivers helped. I have my external SSD disconnected but the front port is still in use [ an USB ring light and I charge my Kindle in one of the ports of a USB hub ]. It didn't happen until this morning when I turned on my PC, after 5-10 minutes that I loaded in windows, I had the sudden disconnect and reconnect.

Sadly I didn't have any of the diagnostic programs turned on to check if I can find the reason.

I use Sysinternals Process Monitor to check on live events, Event Viewer which is limited to only results of issues and USBDeview to check on USB voltages.

The only thing that I can check atm if it stops the issue is to disconnect the front panel totally and uninstall all the latest windows updates again and make sure they don't reinstall in the background.

After these steps I have done most of the things possible for me.

If anyone has more information/tests done do not hesitate to post them here.

I don't know if you checked that the windows update itself with the latest packages or not before the issue happening. That would point another finger towards the latest updates but also, I just checked:

weirdly enough. I have 4 mouses and 4 keyboards. I should keep an eye open to see if my external audio interface disconnects too when the issue happens. I only have 1 instance of each audio interface in Device Manager.

L.E.: I've looked it up, as per the information that I found, multiple entries are usually okay, that is because of functionalities [macros] of keyboards/mouses that register as another device.

I remembered that sometimes (not always) when I had the disconnecting USB, there was always an update waiting to be downloaded on Windows Update

Today it is happening frequently.

Even with the Type-C hub, the same problem occurs.

Often, only the mouse disconnects, and when I give an input with the keyboard, the mouse starts working again.

I noticed that today it doesn't even make the warning sound of the device disconnecting and reconnecting.

It simply freezes while I'm working and then starts again.

After a few times, the keyboard also froze but then started working again.

It's hot here today. I think the temperature might also be a factor...

I've also noticed that sometimes while I'm typing, the keyboard input freezes, and it repeatedly presses the key i was holding down during the freeze

In any case, I tried disabling Windows Update for a few days. I'm restarting and crossing my fingers again.... and again... and again... -___-"
