All USB devices Disconnect randomly on Windows 11.

Good! great it's working again! I've been playing for the past 4 hours and only have had 2 disconnects!

I'm not into criticizing other folks systems, we buy what we can afford or what we actually need. You always get the flash Harry's who have to buy the next big thing but I'm a bit more sensible with my money.

My PC is about my fourth self-build now, an ASUS Prime B350 Plus Motherboard - Ryzen 5 - 1600 3.20 MHz Processor - 16 Gigs DDR4 RAM - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti Graphics. I/O Plate on rear of PC supports: 2 x USB 2.0, 4 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 3.1

I'm a graphics designer so don't need anything faster, I can still render huge image files, sometimes several Gb's with no problems.

Interestingly, since my earlier post today it got me thinking, I've experimented using the USB 2.0 sockets on the I/O plate and discovered they're not affected so I've just tried the USB 3.0 & 3.1 sockets, all of which now seem to be working without issue, how strange!! This has obviously corrected itself without me noticing.

This just leaves the 2 x USB 3.0 sockets on my front facing hub, until recently I used them regularly for charging my phone or transferring data to or from a thumb drive but since this issue reared it's ugly head, I've been using the USB sockets on my monitor instead. So to rule out a dodgy socket I just tried plugging my phone into each one to see if these are now working and much to my surprise one of them is, it's the one on the left which I tend to use less often than the one on the right. Annoyingly however the right one is producing the disconnect fault. I guess this is a bit of a 'Eureka' moment for me, something tells me that my hub might well be faulty, NOT Windows 11.

Don't get me wrong.., I was experiencing the disconnect issues with the rear facing USB sockets on the I/O plate previously, but not any longer. Perhaps the issue has been fixed without me knowing and the issue with the dodgy socket on the front hub was just a red herring?

I suppose if anyone can take anything from my experience, it would be to check all of your USB sockets one by one and see what you discover. Sure., it's a bit of hassle disconnecting everything, I'm lazy and rarely bother experimenting, but I'm sure as hell glad I did today!

Accept that the original post by JMillGaming doesn't mention which USB devices he/she was referring too. I think it fair to say that having read other posts here this issue affects different people in a variety of ways, some more so than others. As I said before, for me personally it only affects data transfer devices such as thumb drives or my mobile phone and when these devices disconnect I can see it happening before my eyes in a File Explorer window. Those devices will appear and disappear every 2-3 seconds, whereas the original OP above mentions the following symptoms which differ slightly...

All of my USB devices randomly disconnect and will sometimes reconnect on their own in 10-20 seconds. Other times when they do not reconnect I have to completely restart the PC to get devices back working.

Just to come back at your own comment about having it narrowed down to USB 3.0 and windows 11, I haven't personally tested this theory until now but YES, I think you might be right! As you already know, my Dell Monitor's side-mounted USB ports don't suffer from these disconnect issues, so to test your theory I've just disconnected the cable from the USB 2.0 ports at the back of my PC (IO plate) and reconnected my mobile phone in it's place.., amazingly it's now working, no disconnects whatsoever!!

So to clarify, YES.. USB 2.0 devices seem unaffected by the issues mentioned here - Only USB 3.0 devices seem to be at fault which begs the question; "was the USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 controller diver update on the 21st May 2024 the cause"?

Unfortunately this driver update can't be rolled back in Device Manager

That's a tough one, I did not update to windows 11 till around July 10th, because a game i wanted to play was not supported on windows 10. My brothers pc has a asrock b450m motherboard with usb 2.0 and 3.0 slots. No disconnects for him. Do you have any idea what your motherboard is? I have an ASUS prime b550 plus (don't critique, it was my first custom build, and it was cheap, now I regret it.) Also my grandpas pc I built him as an Asus Rog Maximus z690 hero and core i9 14900ks. Its on windows 10, and disconnections are non-existent.

Same thing with the USB, My usb 2.0 work fine as my 3.0 don't. I have a netgear wireless usb chip, which never disconnects when my mouse and keyboard do. i switched the mouse and keyboard to that port, and they haven't disconnected.

Weird..! I don't have problems with any of my USB peripherals, both USB 2 & 3 devices work fine, only those that read & write data, such as, Mobile Phone and USB thumb Drives suffer disconnections, everything else is fine.

Of course now I'm able to use this docking station helps. All USB devices work just fine.
