I don't know how to do the bios check but I checked the drive cables and they are secure. I'll probably be better off installing a new drive for $40

Are you able to open and close the CD/DVD drive? What is the make and model of your computer?

In an earlier reply you made you said, "In device manager it shows cd-rom drive but no details". What happens if you select that and perform a right click on it, and then click on Properties?
