Hello,

Having read the thread I think that there are some misunderstandings.

First of all, this procedure only works IF we are using Username and Password to access our Laptops.

The reality is that when we create our Microsoft Accounts on a new Laptop it asks us to simplify the process and log in ot the laptop using a numeric PIN.

And in the PIN field we cannot type in password and the PIN field does NOT have a "forgot password" or "reset password" option.

Second of all the Lock seems to have locked ALL accounts on the laptop. So I had made a secondary account on the laptop and when I try to change password, it is asking me 3 security questions which I answer successfully and then it switches to type in a new password but then it results in "something went wrong" after I type the password confirmation and press enter.

So may main account use a PIN, and my backup Account is locked too and cannot even reset its password.

Now, in the main account I cannot find the Laptop device under Devices. In the backup account I see the Laptop under devices but when I open details it does not have the Unlock Button.

So this is an impasse, there must be a way, otherwise I suggest Microsoft stop associating online accounts with our laptops and PIN s etc etc.

See my post from January 8. I posted the link to another conversation on this forum that has the detailed steps to take to fix this issue. It's the only thing that worked for me since August. But all works now and didn't lose any files.

Have you been able to get solution to this issue?. I’m struggling with same and need help.

I need help to unlock my device. I can’t go pass the login pin screen so I’m unable to enter the admin credentials.
