Windows 10 22h2 security update [KB5034441] fails to install with code: 0x80070643

Well, I just did a complete Windows update as served up by the W10 Create Media tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The processes took about 3 to 4 hours

However, after that all time, Windows update revealed that the original two problematic updates, plus some others others, still needed to be updated.

On the first pass, both the original problematic updates downloaded to 100%, but soon afterwards the install of KB5034441 failed and then its download, which had reported as succeeded at 100%, reported as failed.

Much later, the install of KB5036892 got stuck at 20% and would not continue. This seems to be a similar problem that others have had as well - with no solution from MS that I could find.

I rebooted, the system made a variety of updates at start-up, This took at least another hour.

When the system came back up, it started downloading yet another KB (KB50434685) and the installing of KB5034441 continued - and eventually appeared to finish.

KB50434685 finished downloading and installed.

Another 40 minutes or so.

The system prompted me to restart it, which I did.

Windows update then said KB5037036 is required, it downloaded, installed and called for another reboot.

After the reboot, Windows Updates is reporting the system is up to date!

woo-hoo!

Also, disk clean up (cleaned up everything, including runiing the system clean up) did not help.

I am using W10 Pro, and to recap ...

I don't have bitlocker turned on, and recovery disk is at 3GB

I have tried to enable WinRE, but I get an error stating that it can’t be enabled on a bitlocked drive.

In an attempt to resolve the update issue, I deleted the old WinRE partition, created a new partition, then using Powershell attempted to enable WinRE via the Powershell command line.

I am having this same problem. No problems resizing my recovery partition, in fact its now up to 1.95GB - but the problem with the Windows updates failing still exists for me. Have spent hours on this. Is there a fix coming?

Thanks for the scripts. They cause Powershell 7 to crash. So I think you meant run them on the older Windows Powershell. Which I did and that didn’t crash.

Gave your first script a go. As expected it came back with no partition found.

However I was able to create a partition without bitlocker enabled on it.

I’m now going to have a go at creating a custom recovery partition. This will take a while (backups and all that). Will then get back to you.

But even if the above works, a windows update shouldn’t require this much user effort.
