My printer is prompted to print this at the top of pages, usually from drawer #2 which is envelopes. I have an Epson WF-4740. The information on line indicates that this is an across the board problem. I have contacted Epson and they say it is a Microsoft problem. To date I have tried every suggested fix but nothing stops it. Extremely frustrating!!!!

End.

Sorry to hear so many people are still having trouble with this. For what its worth, I haven't seen this come back since I deleted "HP-SMART" back in mid-May.

I did that in the beginning and it did not work for me. Only the usb/wifi combo worked.

For the third time I have eliminated the problem and for the third time weeks or months later it resurfaces after one of their overnight upgrades. YOu know it's bad enough they won't fix the problem, but do they really have to reintroduce it with every bug fix they make. I am so sick of Microsoft.

Remove everything on your computer that has HP printer software.

You have done all the things I did with my Epson printer. None of that worked. Including what seems to work for others with the HP thing.

I have a theory that it isn't simply printer related and your experiences would back that up. My theory is that it is a communications bug associated with usb and/or wifi.

If your printer is connected directly to your pc, I doubt you will have a problem. If you use a usb port, you may have a problem. My problem went away after I switched my desktop from a more or less direct connection to the internet to wifi. My printer is connected through a usb dongle.

Connecting through wifi cleared the problem. I suspect there is something internal in the operating system that gets set properly when the printer is connected using a usb dongle and running wifi. It has now been more than a month since that ONE TIME test using wifi and usb for my desktop and the problem has stopped. I've even had two firmware updates and it's still fine. What is a hint is that every now and then, my printer makes a small grunt like it used to do before the flailing and then printing the error. Only now, there's one grunt and it stops.

The release notification from the operating system to the printer is getting lost. Something was changed in the usb code that causes the release notification to fall through the code. The wifi addition seems to reset the code.

I have no other explanation. I was in the same insanity inducing state as you before this. I hope that helps.
