My printer is prompted to print this at the top of pages, usually from drawer #2 which is envelopes. I have an Epson WF-4740. The information on line indicates that this is an across the board problem. I have contacted Epson and they say it is a Microsoft problem. To date I have tried every suggested fix but nothing stops it. Extremely frustrating!!!!

End.

Oh no! Try the notifications thing. It didn't work for me. I applied every single "fix" written on this thread to no avail.

Your experience strengthens my assumption that it is not a specific brand of printer, per se, it's in the operating system's communications with any printer. Too many different printers have the same problem. It is how Microsoft releases any printer that's failing. The printer is saying it's done. After a period of time with no response from the O/S, the printer gives up and prints that error.

Question for you: are you connected to the internet at all or is this just a standalone printer? I have a direct connect to the internet and it was only by chance that I could print without that error from another computer that was connected by wifi. I then changed my direct connect (RS232) to wifi and was successful. That did not make me happy. I needed the direct connect's capabilities. I switched that pc back to direct connect and, for reasons still mystifying, the error condition has been resolved.

If your pc is standalone, the only workaround I found was to run all my print jobs and then turn off the printer. That effectively tells the printer it's released. Then when you need to print again, turn on the printer and you're fine.

That's stone age type of stuff but it will save you paper and ink.

I have the same question. My printer is a Konica Minolta bizhub4422. I have spoken to both my IT guy and the printer supplier who have both advised that if disabling checkbox "show informational notifications for local printers" doesn't fix the problem to notify Microsoft.

I don't have the option of wifi connection, only USB cable.

First and foremost, this is a Microsoft problem. All you can do is find a way to get your printing done cleaning until Microsoft fixes its bug. This is happening to all sorts of printers. It's not in the printer. It's in the operating system's communication with a printer. There should be a generic routine in the O/S that sends a release to any printer. The problem is not quite that simple because of the variety of printers. That's where Microsoft has failed. Whatever branching logic it's using to accommodate scanners, etc., is failing when all you want to do is print and be done. Your printer is waiting for that sign off from Microsoft.

This is a pain but will work. When you are done printing, turn off the printer, wait a bit, and then turn it back on. That worked for me until, by some serendipity, my test of wifi and usb seemed to reset my Windows 11 parameters. When I went back to simple usb to the printer and direct cable connect for my Dell Inspiron, the maddening error message disappeared never to return again.

Try turning your printer off after a print job and turning it back on. Microsoft hasn't fixed this problem in over a year.
