When I follow the steps in the Microsoft Store to try to switch out of S mode, all I get is a message:

"Something happened and we couldn't start the upgrade"

and a Try Again button.

After 1 day and a half, I tried again and it worked! On my way to install Duckduckgo!

Same. I bought Lenovo Ideapad yesterday and I'm stuck with S mode. I'll wait within 24 hours, if it's still doesn't work, I'll return it. What's the use of using this laptop if it's restricted from doing or downloading the apps that you want right?

This has been the worst experience I’ve ever had when buying a brand-new PC. I recently purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad, which came with Windows 11 in S mode. Despite trying everything possible to disable it, I’ve hit a roadblock.

I eventually called Microsoft for assistance. However, they kept me on hold for an entire hour before connecting me with a technical assistant. This person proceeded to reinstall my Windows (which took an additional 30 minutes) and even disconnected the call midway.

After the OS was reinstalled (before any updates were applied), I attempted to disable S mode once again. Unfortunately, it still didn’t work.

Now I find myself stuck, contemplating whether to call Microsoft again. The contrast with Apple products is striking! I was initially excited about using my new laptop, but it feels like I’ve been transported back to my college days, struggling to set up a Linux machine. I spent my entire weekend debugging instead of enjoying my new computer.

Suffice it to say, I won’t be buying another Windows PC anytime soon!

    FraYCC thank you !

same experience. I did nothing new, simply tried one last time and as you say, soaked for 24 (or slightly less) hours then it took. Just download preferred browser.
Appreciate all the folks here who are helping each other.
