Delete EFI partition on external drive.

I've been having problems regarding SSD cloning. Macrium have been very helpful. It appears that I'm booting from the 2 installed internal hard drives (!?!).

It was working OK for ages but obviously something subsequently has happened.

It was recommended I clone to an external drive.

Fortunately I had a another SDD that I could use. I reformatted this and connected externally . Checked with file folder that it could be read and was empty. All good.

Used Macrium to clone but was concerned that if supposedly booting form 2 internal drives, what am I copying, and would it work?

It didn't!

Both drives had 3 partitions; An EFI System partition (100MB), Windows 11 Home partition (465 GB) and a Recovery Partition ((610MB)

To cut long story short, the external drive now consists of 2 partitions, The EFI partition and an unallocated partition.

The external SDD is no accessible !!. I get the message "You currently don't have permission to access this folder" and continuing, "You have been denied access to this folder" " to gain access to this folder you will have to use the security tab"

Don't understand what to do next.

Using Disk Management and right clicking on greyed out EFI partition gives a greyed out window

Can anyone help in getting this 'external' drive accessible again ?

Glad the Seagate disk works.

(or)

D:\Windows (from WinRE Command Prompt)

Error 0xC000000e means STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE - A device which does not exist was specified.

The system doesn't seem to find that USB hard drive. Maybe you can try a BIOS update.

If it's not too much work, you can run "clean" the USB hard drive using diskpart, It's a powerful command which wipes all the partitions and erases the data. Please take extra care when selecting the disk # when using the diskpart clean command.

Then, re-clone from MSI → USB hard drive. If nothing helps, it's a good idea to use your Seagate drive as the clone.

So there's no confusion, I connected Seagate SSHD as an internal disc not USB. Boots OK if selected.

Additional information FYI.

I connected Seagate SSHD as USB. I confirmed BIOS boot order #1 was USB hard drive.

On restart, boot ignored USB and booted into windows 11 where Disc Management properties confirmed:-

Disk C:\ as MSI M390

Disc D:\ as "Ugreen KW00003 Disk Device" (!!!!???!!!!); not the Seagate as expected (though perhaps that's how it's seen)

Now the following takes some believing:-

I removed Seagate from USB connection and rebooted. Disc management properties shows:-

Disk 0 MSI M390.

I restored Seagate to internal connection and rebooted (not Image). This time Disk Management properties showed:-

Disc 0 Samsung SSD 850 EVO (*What !!!!????. It's a Seagate not a Samsung!)

Disc 1 MSI M390

If you can explain what’s going on I’d be pleased to read it.

Check your diskpart output. Tthe secondary hard drive is assigned drive letter D on your system when you're in WinRE. Whereas in Windows, the secondary hard drive is assigned F:.

It's detected as a Samsung drive, which may be because of this.

Forgot about diskpart. Thanks for reminder.

Didn't know Seagate had acquired Samsung's drive business.

My Seagate is a SSHD (hybrid). The Samsung 850 EVO, which I also have, is a SSD, not hybrid. Some confusion there ? Also, how do these relate to the "Ugreen KW00003 Disk Device" ?
