Solution for: Epson scanner no longer works after Windows 11 update

Resolved for me, want to share with the Community:

Forget about the Epson interface and instead download and use the "Windows Scan" app here:

Once I did that my Epson DS-510 started working again. You select what device you want to use, either printers or scanners. Your scanner should appear in the dropdown list if is connected.

Some history: I had updated to Windows 11 in November 2023, and for about half a year I was able to use the DS-510 like previously. My Epson DS-510 mysteriously stopped working in May-June of 2024. In that timespan I had installed some Windows 11 updates.

Today I spent over 1 1/2 hours on the phone with Epson support and they tried to help but couldn't figure it out. Also in the course of that call we came across an option to use a Microsoft scanning app "Windows Scan," but the Epson tech said to ignore that and kept looking for other solutions.

Finally one of them said why don't you call Microsoft? It seemed to make sense to me that the problems was related to the Windows 11 update in May-Jun, since that coincided with the Epson no longer working. Then suddenly I said to myself why not at least try the Windows Scan app, and that turned out to solve the problem!

    So, after all this discussion, IS there a solution to the problem of scanning 6x6 negatives? Has someone come up with a real fix for the problem?

    Or are we in the Pass-the-Buck game where Microsoft says it's Epson's fault, while Epson says it's Microsoft's fault, and neither one will accept the responsibility to correct the problem?

    Has anyone found the proper app, or the proper fix of existing apps, to allow my to scan all my 6x6 negatives, or should I just consider using my V600 as a boat anchor?

    Why, after all this time, does not Epson exercise some true customer support and have its techs just fix the problem, once and for all?

    WOW It worked for me too. My old, perfectly acceptable EPSON Perfection 2480 scanner is working again with my Win 11 OS. Thanks.

    I have an Epson Et-5150 multifunction printer. I have just updated Windows from 23H2 to 24H2. Now it is impossible to use the scanner (printer works fine) which I access using the Epson Scan 2 application. It's a great application with many powerful and for me essential capabilities. It seems that this problem is also observed with Canon scanners.

    Luckily, I have caught this Microsoft defect in 24H2 quickly and was able to roll back to 23H2, having made the update to 24H2 less than 10 days ago. I first uninstalled the printer, went the Epson web site and reinstalled the drivers and relevant Epson software.

    Everything is back to normal !!!

    I've turned off Auto Update for Windows Releases:

    I have an Epson V200 photo.

    Some years ago it stopped working under Windows 10 until I found a suggestion that the program C:\Windows\twain_32\escndv\escndv.exe needs to run with administrator rights. I created a shortcut and from its properties I selected the compatibility tab and the "Run as Administrator Option". This worked under Windows 10. I recall after some Windows updates (probably major features releases) I had to go back and rerun the epson programs epson13568.exe and epson322276eu. This kept the old scanner ticking along nicely for a few more years.

    This week on a new Windows 11 PC I could not get the Epson scan program (with all its features) to work but found that Microsoft Scan was able to talk successfully to the V200. This morning I have repeated the Windows 10 fix i.e. created a shortcut for C:\Windows\twain_32\escndv\escndv.exe and told it to run as administrator. I am now again able to use the Epson scan from my ordinary user account albeit when it starts I have to provide an administrator password.

    I also got the ABBY (Sprint Fine Reader) version 6 that came with the scanner to work and perform multiple page scans and OCR recognition.
